Greetings and Happy Easter to All As you all know 2012 is coming up soon and it’s high time patriotic Kenyans started thinking of how to push the National Cohesion agenda especially among our roughly 10 million youth. THE TEAM a TV series that aired on Citizen last year was a step in the right direction. It’s all about a team composed of players from different tribes. When they play together they win and when the play against each other the team loses. However it is felt that we barely or passively interact with the TV thus many TV initiatives aren’t as effective as they were meant to be. Rarely does TV push us to think but rather it spoon feeds. The million dollar question is if you had a large budget what project would you start to target the youths with the aim of promoting National Cohesion. Do not limit yourself any media can be utilised T.V., radio, social networking, videogames etc Thanks.

Kindly remove/unsuscribe me from this list. --- On Mon, 4/5/10, waihiga mwaura <waihigamwaura@gmail.com> wrote: From: waihiga mwaura <waihigamwaura@gmail.com> Subject: [Skunkworks] What If You Had A Big Budget.... @Waihiga, I think you are sharing some good ideas. I'm not very conversant with politics of the ideas so for me, I think the one approach to getting youth involved in any process would be via an SMS based game communicating to a toll free number. Computer or online games, online social networks restrict participation due to many reasons. I also think the game should be a rewarding process for those participating and due to the complex nature of some of the issues, it should run well over a number of years evolving each year to suit the economic enviroment. I think the design goal of such a project would be easy inter-action without the need for expensive or complex technologies on the user end. I'd definately put that large budget into an SMS based game. Me thots. :-) On Mon, Apr 5, 2010 at 8:50 PM, waihiga mwaura <waihigamwaura@gmail.com> wrote:

And adding more lines of thot for this week. Corrections are welcome. @Waihiga, you've got me thinking so consider this. That out of each calamity that befalls people-kind all over the world, there emerges technology to further help understand the complexity of the problem. If you take any crises management systems, they were all born out of unfortunate circumstances and some born in places where there have been no such events . There is no fixed formula nor solution, because technology cannot accurately predict the next big quake nor can it accurately predict the outcome of any political process. You defined a complex issue with one line = Youth and promoting National Cohesion. As a game designer or whatever, ( well future tense at that ) I'd approach the problem in a different manner due to its complex nature. Avoid focus on one element of the problem. I'd be designing a game on this : " I Love my Country ! ". This game would cover many aspects of why one loves and would protect it from self destruction. And each time the youth are able to protect his/her country via the SMS based game, they would be rewarded for thinking of ways to save it. Each day, one problem would be presented in the game and the youth must figure out the puzzle to claim a price and have fun in the process. I think there is enough talent on this list to build such a game system. I'd still put the game on an SMS service because no other platform provides cheap and quick access. Then use radio, tv or other means to create awareness and get thousands into the game. But ofcourse you don't have that large budget, do you? :-)) If " I Love my country! " does not work out, well I hope something else will. On Tue, Apr 6, 2010 at 10:08 AM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

Aki you are a genius.I dont have a big budget yet but im talking to people who may have it thats why i wanna get as many technology based ideas as possible.Present them and if they approve come back and harvest the talent from the skunkworks community. The I LOVE MY COUNTRY idea would be brilliant especially if it was via a toll-free sms number and results announced via radio,tv,facebk etc.. @Waihiga, I appreciate your comment, pls dont put me on such a high pedestal... :-) But to prove that " I LOVE MY COUNTRY !" can work, look at the the contribution from james muendo. That already becomes puzzle of the day for the gamers to figure out. I have strong faith that it can be done with member contributions just on this list. As soon as I get sometime, will list the concept of " I LOVE MY COUNTRY! " but also welcome others to contribute to its concept. Rgds. If I had a big budget,I would ensure that people can vote using their mobile phones and also be able to review results real time as they stream in from numbers.I would make sure the real time procedure show the candidates how they are fairing on and screen people's numbers. That's my new hearts desire for technology to take root from all corners and that includes voting.
