Jailbreaking and unlocking are different terms altogether. Jail-breaking means enabling the iPhone to install third party Apps, not certified by Apple through a third party App Store, the most common, and I think the only one now being Cydia. Most iPhone models are Jail-breakable, even with the latest iOS. Unlocking is totally different and applies to unlock a device to work on a carrier it is not locked to. This is most common for devices bought on contract from carriers such as AT&T, 3, Orange (even here in Kenya) which require you to pay up your plan. Only older devices are unlockable, with new ones being more difficult. With older phones up to older models of iPhone 3GS, you could easily replace the stock baseband with an iPad 1 compatible baseband (called in Jailbreak Speak 0.6.15.00) and just unlock. This is an unlockable baseband used for iPad 1, iPhone 3G and pre-2010 iPhone 3GS. With new phones from iPhone 4S, it is virtually impossible to unlock. Check https://www.iclarified.com for tutorials and wizards. If you phone, firmware and baseband are not supported, you can't unlock, doesn't matter how much googling you do. If your baseband isnt on www.iphoneheat.com then most likely you cannot unlock for now and have to wait for higher baseband releases, then there will be unlock for your baseband. Well I gave up looking for a software hack since the baseband was already one that couldn't be unlocked. I have updated via itunes and now saving chumes to have it IMEI unlocked. Three UK costs 140$ while the others are in the 60$ range. No idea why they are that expensive but only way out. It is almost more affordable to get a new iphone 4 for 25k on OLX. Hi, Why not get an R SIM? Temporary unlock but works like gevey SIM. I sell it for Kes 8,500. Alternatively, I can charge you $125 for the Three/Hutchison UK network. Duration time for this unlock is 10-25 days (not including weekends). Only works for iPhone 4/4S. Our service will not unlock phones reported stolen, lost or barred or are subject to an insurance claim. I can get you a full report on your phone status and details for $6 only after 24hours, then I can get you an unlock. If interested, get back to me off list or via phone number 072 272 6290.
