Hi, Self distracting secure element chip http://goo.gl/C5Dzc What will google come up with next just wondering would this ever give Mpesa a run for there money in the future? -- *"One who ask questions is a fool for five minutes one who doesn't is a fool forever."*

The following are the hurdles IMO before it can be a veritable threat to Mpesa: - It requires handsets with NFC electronics built-in - Google also needs to team up with handset manufacturers to make this widespread. It currently seems tied only to smartphones, but if you can have a *mulika mwizi* with an NFC chip built-in, cool! - The customer will need a Google account - currently this may be an issue when taken to the rural setting where one might understand how the sim-based Mpesa works but the whole Google ecosystem thing is an issue. However, Google can as well team up with the network operator and have something like each simcard automatically gets a Google account tied to it, with the password being the PIN...you get the drift...and have arrangements with agent outlets for guys to make deposits & withdrawals so as to shield those intricacies from the mobile subscriber. I think I just sold an idea there [?]

If you want to know the potential success of this, examine the global credit/debit card statistics. To evaluate whether m-pesa will be more successful, check the current m-pesa usage statistics against the global credit/debit card statistics. Why it will work, everyone is working together for NFC: http://www.nfc-forum.org/member_companies/ On Fri, May 27, 2011 at 10:45 AM, Haggai Nyang <haggai.nyang@gmail.com>wrote:

For those who don't have smart cards you can have an NFC sticker. If you look at the Google wallet presentation it gives you a hint of where offline commerce is heading to..We should be preparing our Kenyan merchants and consumers for the future.

Elsewhere but not in Kenya since mpesa focuses on watu wamashinani who dont have smart phones.
