Re: [Skunkworks] Facebook Video Streams Freezing

I watched the Kenya rugby stream on Facebook and in HD a while back, no issues at all. What setup are you using? Although based on the evidence given, sounds like an issue with their CDN?

Yap, this is what i gathered 3months ago - sirprisingly i dont have a facebook account so i did investigation with someone else who had this problem and bandwidth wasnt an issue. Facebook vs youtube: The info below maybe outdated (i don't follow facebook) but may give you a guide. A brief: What you have problem with is facebook videos - especially newly uploaded videos. Old videos are loading ok - so long as there is no PL. Facebook and youtube both use CDN servers distributed around the world. Youtube has by far optimised their content delivery by far and fb are still working to perfect or match youtube. Youtube has build their platform on various languages and technology like (borrowed) /Using HTML 5, fb still using flash. /Using Youtube Feather - for low bandwidth connections /Changing Video Quality - to match the quality of your link /Using Speedbit Accelerator. /ByPassing ISP Throttling. Using Video Players. The above feature have made the youtube fast and reliable. Facebook doesn't have anything close to above therefore their video delivery will be affected. Youtube as of this year has close to 1M CDN servers across the globe, fb has one fifth of that. -may have changed since.... Newly created videos will take some time to load on all CDNs definitely.- info maybe outdated too.... Video is just a part of offering of facebook & it is still to starting to focus on this segment. Facebook still majority relies on external CDN for streaming. PL will affect all applications and videos in same manner. You now have an idea. Hi, I have been receiving quite some complaints from many clients about the freezing of Facebook video, not a new problem apparently. The issue is across ISPs I have rested on 2 ISP with almost the same results. Anyone, who has been able to resolve this. Any Idea of their CDN setup? I am a happy customer as well, no freezing of videos on my end. IMO if it is a CDN related issue, then it maybe the way it has been deployed by the ISP and not really being a CDN provider issue re:optimization because most of these CDN operators run strict metrics that are properly optimized even if they are scattered in the continent.
