D-Day 1st Sept 2009 : lets open the discussion

Hi all, As you can see below, the task below requires quite a commitment. But we sometime have to make those sacrfifices to get things done. Pending personal finances and time, I've set a commited date of 1st Sept 2009 as the video website date. By whatever means necessary, the plan is to move. The site will be simple and can evolve over time. I may co-host if I can resolve some personal issues etc but the show must go on. You may create your own 1 minute flv video and send. I can post or you can post directly after moderation 24hrs period. Content strictly ICT related such as news, projects, ideas, if you are a solution or service provider etc, programmer, content developer etc. A small overview of content for first 4 months is as follows but not limited to ( if you have the time ) ( pls remember I cannot do this full time so mostly evenings or sat will work ) : Suggested Main program ( I've missed on many who should be here, pls add yourself ): @Josiah, Riyaz and other who founded skunks. This will be a simple opening video but covers plenty. @A four part series with Alex and CCK initiative @A four part series Evans and LPAK and others who are involved. @Washington and BSD @David Kiania : VOIP and other contributions @Conrad Akungu ( Rad )- decorated soldier in his own field. There are others too @Ushaidi : Eric and all other developers who got mentioned recently at open source awards @chuks and security @Mombasa skunks and tech scene @RF guys and gals. This one a must @Any skunks ( Tony, Njihia, Mbuthia, there are so many ) working on area of expertise @Any kictanet people who are working on policy and the rest. @long term live webcast of tuesdays meeting and all technology related events Suggested Normal program: @ABC of technology : Tips, guides. I may do this one and welcome all ideas and video contributions for this @Weekly/Monthly Hardcore tech item : this will be a sequence Suggested Self videos : @anyone who is in technology or doing something. A special request for Wesley. A few months ago you mentioned about lack of content in national media. This credit goes to you. Hopefully you can think of a small 8 week series that can make it to both KBC and online. I can help you with content if needed, maybe co-host with you if possible. We will then need assistance to get the video to KBC and aired. its a long shot but I hope once they see what its about, they will consider it. I've left out many things which I've considered including modalities, but please shoot those questions and contributions. The discussion is open to anyone. Also, if anyone wants to use the idea and get things done, I say all the better. There are time, commitment and cost implications. So all the help anyone gives or gets will be a big step forward. Cheers.

Excellent! Moderation will be the key to your success! You are acceptable to the radical but creative FOSS (skunkworks) crowd and not offensive to the Windows developer, corporate and civilian types who do not appreciate being labeled as <LUsers>.... I suppose you mean well..but before I am lined up for/at activities including conferences, humanitatian, 'national development',, etc initiatives I consider it only fair to be consulted first, participate at least by sharing my thoughts. Otherwise it feel 'kama kupangwa pangwa pangwa.' :-) Restating my approach to *any* and *all* public initiatives as:- 1. Study the politics around the subject 2. Analyse the motives ( or motivations) of the actors 3. Engage on the 'details' of the initiative This was on learning that starting from 3 upwards often led to surprises later on... Hi Alex, you are a blessing in disguise! :-) thnks much for clarification and am quite glad about the discussion. you've just made my project life much easier in many ways. The activities i mentioned in earlier email was a suggested flow and I sincerely hope no one on the list felt the proposed activities were imposing, cause really its nothing but an idea. Seems things are quite complicated out there and I'm sure you share your thoughts from years of knowledge and experience. :-) Rgds.

@knowledge You will also find as true a local historical culture of subtle-to-fierce fight of knowledge rested at the edges. It empowers disrupting cozy 'self-interest institutional arrangements' aka corruption, business and political interests, public officers job security...etc Engage in it only if prepared for the consequences. @politics Many wonderful public-interest initiatives fail simply because the originators were perceived as coming from 'wrong' tribe or 'wrong' political party, or simply because a certain powerful political family member just didn't like the interventionist.Or because the threatened orchestrated occasional negative mass media coverage, for example, http://sokaissues.info/home/index.html. Lesson? Importance of "issue politics" failure which risks wasted precious time, resources and personal sacrifices. btw, hope I am not discouraging well-intentioned souls - read "to be fore-warned is to be fore-armed." asante,,

Hey Alex :-) I'm quite glad for your advice and pointers. Your insight is not discouraging at all nor anything negative in any way. The last thing I'd want is to be embroiled in any issues that were never part of objectives of a site. Unfortunately there is a certain world we live in and there is certain reality to most things. The project idea is a no strings attached one but I can forsee some future problems especially when looking for sponsers for financial support to run expenditure on equipment, fixed and staff costs which may bring a clash of what content goes out and the rest. And the site could easily become another internet love hate monster because of disagreements. I'm still very keen on getting webcasting going via a project site so hopefully will keep that part of the project going or I may just go full commercial with a site and build a replica later for the tech content one which can be subsidized via the commercial one. That way content will be voluntary. Its a tricky one and I'm glad to be on the list where the issues can be discussed openly. Asante.
