Have no doubt about this, Microsoft has the potential to give OTT (Over the Top ) Players a major boost. I think mobile operators have a reason to worry. I also expect Gtalk to pick up rapidly as in no time M$ will lock up skype for all phones bar Win7. It wont be free for long. I also expect skype to be bundled with Bing, so google will have to respond to this. It is not exactly good news, Skype will remain a technology solution rather than a community tool eg Facebook or Twitter. "Dust to Dust, Ashes to Ashes" ..... I doubt M$ can tamper with the $200 plus community behind skype. The community is the strength behind skype, without which its just another piece of software. M$ needs the existing user base to achieve market leadership, so I dont think they will dump free calls or other business services offered by skype anytime soon, afterall M$ already has their voip and video technologies, the only thing skye brings to the table is the huge user base --------------------------------------- Steve O: Software Developer www.sobbayi.com ----- "David Kiania | Asentric Consulting Ltd" <kianiadee@gmail.com> wrote:

You can accuse Microsoft of many things but stupidity is not one of them. No one in their right mind will charge for Skype. No one in their right mind would kill the Golden goose. Skype is a strategic acquisition and it makes no sense to arbitrarily limit a tool that runs on most platforms to a single one.
