Hi Skunks/Skunkettes/(Other) Anyone on the list using a VOIP provider? Would you recommend i go for local VOIP providers or an intentional provider. I want to sign up for a voip account to be used in a small office with 2 IP phones R, T21

Sorry to ask, but how do you intend to use the two IP Phones? Are you going to sign up for two Independent numbers - one for each phone? Or are you going to use a small PBX - one number, two extensions? Whichever way, Vincent Thuo works for iWay Africa, doing VoIP and I can recommend him over and over. I use their services at two sites and so far I am happy. I have copied him on this response. Sorry, I haven't spoken to him for several months - because I haven't had any problems to raise with him. I hope he's good and kicking somewhere and will be able to offer you his superb services. On 8 April 2014 14:52, Tusker 21 <tusker212@gmail.com> wrote:

@wash, Thanks for the response. I have an IPBX that has 2 GSM Lines. It supports VOIP trunks which i want to configure to have an online number that i can use to make international calls at a fair rate. Iway africa, i remember they had something called VAP, does it still exist? is it what you use? R, T21 On Tue, Apr 8, 2014 at 8:15 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:

@Wash 1 number 2 extensions, i wonder if a 512 MB link from safaricom is sufficient for VOIP calls. approx how much MB do you need for an excellent VOIP call? R, T21 On Tue, Apr 8, 2014 at 8:31 PM, Tusker 21 <tusker212@gmail.com> wrote:

You only need from 11kbps to about 128K (one way) to make a VOIP call depending on codecs in use (including overheads). Talk to me on competitive international rates/voip/ippbx setup and SIP/iax2 peering. Search no further. See below sampled... You certainly would use g729/g723 to save alot and still maintain quality (not CD quality) - BroadVoice Codec 16Kbps narrowband, and 32Kbps wideband - DoD CELP - 4.8 Kbps - GIPS Family - 13.3 Kbps and up - GSM - 13 Kbps (full rate), 20ms frame size - iLBC - 15Kbps,20ms frame size: 13.3 Kbps, 30ms frame size - ITU G.711 - 64 Kbps, sample-based Comes in two flavors: A-law and mu-law - ITU G.722 - 48/56/64 Kbps ADPCM 7Khz audio bandwidth - ITU G.722.1 - 24/32 Kbps 7Khz audio bandwidth (based on Polycom's SIREN codec) - ITU G.722.1C - 32 Kbps, a Polycom extension, 14Khz audio bandwidth - ITU G.722.2 - 6.6Kbps to 23.85Kbps. Also known as AMR-WB. CELP 7Khz audio bandwidth - ITU G.723.1 - 5.3/6.3 Kbps, 30ms frame size - ITU G.726 - 16/24/32/40 Kbps - ITU G.728 - 16 Kbps - ITU G.729 - 8 Kbps, 10ms frame size - LPC10 - 2.5 Kbps - Speex - 2.15 to 44.2 Kbps Kind Regards, Wilson./
