Can a Wireless Print Server work with an Access Point

Hi Guys This is sort of a stupid question but can a wireless print server work with an AP i.e. a situation where the Wireless print server connects to the AP in a purely wireless fashion? Is there anyone who has configured this in the forum? Your thoughts will be appreciated. Jack

Yes it can, and does. Only issue is you have to check what IP it gets every time it connects for you to use the printer. ./Ok3ch On Wed, Mar 2, 2011 at 9:55 PM, Jac <jack.gathoni@gmail.com> wrote:

It wouldn't be a wireless print server if it can't work with the access point, now would it be? Anyway, the configuration varies depending on whether it is inbuilt, like some HP models, or it is external like the D-Link types and others. Some of the the external ones require a different kind of configuration, the inbuilt ones should just be like the wired ones if you know the IP address.

And on the wireless network configuration, you can always reserve some IPs...and give the printer the static addresses On Thu, Mar 3, 2011 at 8:52 AM, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

@Phillip, I think what he really meant is whether to connect the wireless printer with a cable or wirelessly to the access point. ./Ok3ch On Thu, Mar 3, 2011 at 9:05 AM, Mike M. <mmycool@gmail.com> wrote:

@Okechukwu, I think I just misunderstood the part he said to connect to the AP is a purely wireless version. My bad.

Hi Okechukwu/Philip and Mike Am talking of an external wireless print server and a Dlink DP-G310 to be exact. Am trying to connect it to a an Access Point and then the access point is connected to a router and the router to a server which issue IP through DHCP. I am able to establish a connection between the print-server and the AP but when I manually assign the an IP address to the print server, it does not work. Anyone who can help please? You need to assign an IP manually on the device first. Connect it to you PC and give it a range on you IP assignments, before connecting it to you AP and then reserving the IP on your AP. ./Ok3ch Sent from my iPad On Mar 3, 2011, at 10:35, Jac <jack.gathoni@gmail.com> wrote:

Jac, First, you will need to login to your print server, I believe it has an Ethernet port and a predefined IP address. When you so that, there will be settings for connecting the print server to the access point, where you need to enter the SSID and the network key. After this, the AP and the print server should connect. Make sure you assign the wireless interface of the print server a staticl IP address, it will never work as a server with a changing one. Then you connect your printers by adding them through an IP port with the IP address being the wireless IP of your print server.

If you can manage to login to the print server, the setup is easy. By default, the IP address of the D-Link should be 192.168.0.10 or 192.168.0.50. Make sure you comp has an IP in that network, like 192.168.0.99, then using a network cable, connect your comp to the D-LINK print server. You will see many options, go to Wireless and enter you SSID, and WEP Encryption key you are currently using in your wireless network. Look at it as a computer you are connecting to a wireless network. Concept is the same. Click Apply to Save your setting. Then go to Network, and assign you server an IP address in your real network which should be a static address.

On the DHCP Server, to be precise. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Damn!!
