Finding myself at a loose end this afternoon, I decided to do some quick stats on the KE domain. Here are the results: *1. Total Domains registered:* * * accogoneorsc23996064072163528 *2. Growth Compared to 2007:* * * ac - 97.5% co - 51.6% go - 135.2% ne - 133.2% or - 13.7% sc - 211.1% *3. Hosting of core domain services (WWW, Mail, Nameserver):* All numbers are percentages. Provide top 6. XX - refers to private networks. Means my geoIP library could not resolve the location of the geographical location of the IP address. (Statistically, you could roughly account for this by redistributing this value, by weight, to known locations). * * *a. WWW: *(Tested by resolving geoIP of www.<domainname>.<ac|co|go|ne|or|sc>.<tld>) (US) 34.20 (XX) 29.20 (KE) 28.80 (HK) 01.20 (UK) 01.10 (DE) 01.10 *b. Mail: * (Location of the primary (lowest value) MX record): (KE) 51.90 (US) 21.30 (XX) 14.10 (DE) 05.20 (JP) 02.40 (CA) 01.00 *c. Nameserver:* (Location of all nameserver records): (KE) 41.80 (US) 32.00 (XX) 09.00 (EU) 03.50 (DE) 02.50 (CA) 02.50 *d. All: *( Consolidation of all records): (KE) 42.00 (US) 29.40 (XX) 14.70 (DE) 03.00 (EU) 01.70 (CA) 01.70 *4. Conclusions:* -Rapid growth in domain registration in the last two years -While core services are mostly being hosted in KE, local retention could be improved. Would be interesting to redo the study in two years to see how things have changed.
