Hi Skunkworks, I have a scenario where I have a Generation 8 HP. Currently running 6.5 Centos. Which is the best Virtual box so as I can have independent machines running. I.e not NAT. A way I can reach the virtual host from remote if it has a public IP. Regards, Evon Wangari

I would suggest you look and implementing Virtualisation with Xen. You obviously cant reach the virtual host if there is no connection between the physical interface on your HP box and the the VM. Xen offers different ways of configuring this. Start here http://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/Network_Configuration_Examples_(Xen_4.1%2B) But I'm sure there are countless other resources online the same. Hi Njuki, I have used XEN before and it works best. The issue here is, the server is already running centos 6.5 server with a number of server applications. To utilize it for, I require to do vitalization such that, the centos will be the base. I think for XEM, it acts as the base OS if am not wrong. Am looking for the best Virtual Machine manager to run on the centos . Regards, Evon Wangari On Wed, Jul 1, 2015 at 2:03 PM, David Njuki <njukey@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Evon, Use 'bridged adapter' setting in virtual Box. This will allow the VM to have independent IP from the host (dhcp or static). Regards, Anthony On Wed, Jul 1, 2015 at 1:46 PM, Evon Wangari via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Hi Evon, The Oracle VirtualBox is easy to set up for root access. XEN can be installed and configured to achieve remote access too. If your virtual machine is able to ping 'outside' setting it up for remote access is possible, but always, step 1 is ensuring that your virtual machine is able to talk to the outside networks. In the event you don't want your virtual machine to have Internet access, you then should enable remote access to the host machine then take it from there. -- I hope it works On 17:37, Wed, Jul 1, 2015 Anthony Lenya via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Hey Evon. Did you succeed?
From your last post, I would advise that you "add" an ethernet interface on your virtual machine hardware configuration if you want to use one of the 8 physical ports you mentioned earlier. This is not dependent on the virtualization software you are using.
Bridging is a way for your virtual machine to use your host's physical ethernet port as an ethernet port on its own. You may use Tony's link as a guide. I went through it and you may find it to be quite useful. On 07:53, Fri, Jul 3, 2015 Alex Nyalita via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
KVM has more than you have requested. Hoping you have setup 64bit though. You need to build a bridge for each Ethernet.

Evon,
Go KVM way, you will not regret.

Hi Guys, I have tried The Oracle VirtualBox. Yes you can use bridge form, but it does not give me more features like use a different Ethernet adapter, noting i have four in Generation 8. I want a way, a VM can be independent from the main machine. like Different Ethernet Card, different domains and such. Alex Nyalika, will KVM Hypervisors have such? Please Linux Guru`s, help.

For open source hypervisors, I would recommend KVM for production environment. Am currently running several sites on this platform with the vm guest handling as much as 10m TPS without much impact on hardware resources.

I think Vmware Player can still do this. You select the bridged option for every guest

Hello, I would advise that you choose a bare metal environment for max performance. Running virtualization on a basic Linux OS not only exposes all your servers to very many points of failures but also provides limited performance. Convert the Centos server to a virtual machine using a Physical 2 Virtual (P2V) converter then deploy it as a VM. VMware ESXi will sort you out. I can give a few good reasons. 1. HP actually provides optimized ESXi images - it is that good. More at HP ProLiant servers with VMware <http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/servers/solutions.html?compURI=1499005#tab=TAB4> . 2. VMware's P2V(register for a free trial so that you can also get a free ESXi key) is guaranteed to migrate you without any hitches. VCentre Converter <https://www.vmware.com/products/converter>. 3. It is the most thoroughly tested virtualization framework. I am available to assist you with the deployment at a very very modest cost :-) Regards, Kevin On 1 July 2015 at 13:46, Evon Wangari via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
Hi Skunkworks,
I have a scenario where I have a Generation 8 HP. Currently running 6.5 Centos. Which is the best Virtual box so as I can have independent machines running. I.e not NAT. A way I can reach the virtual host from remote if it has a public IP.
