Re: [Skunkworks] skunkworks Digest, Vol 20, Issue 127

LOL..In the first place this is a very week argument from this joke of a board. Netflix did not come to Kenya they just opened up. Rather they just removed the location restriction for anybody that wants to access the service to be able to. They have no infrastructure in Kenya or doing something special or tailored to the Kenyan market hence we cannot say “They came to Kenya without consent”….lol

I really don't understand the need for GoK to police on what it deems to be good morals. If anything corruption has killed more dreams and people than anything else I can think of. Incompetence and negligence at GoK hospitals have shuttered more dreams and aspirations than the internet for example.
To add onto what @Jangita stated. <nsfw>P0rnhub and b0ng0cams</nsfw> are visited by more people in Kenya than even the UON and KU websites. It is the internet and people should be free to visit any website they can think of.
Does KFCB and other GoK busybodies even know of the Dark Web?

The Kenya Film Classification Board has said that Netflix, an American based video-streaming service, is operating in Kenya illegally.
Mr Jackson Kosgey, the chairman of the board says, on Wednesday said the company did not seek license from the board before it started streaming two weeks ago.
According to the board, Netflix is a threat to Kenya’s national security due the kind of content it is streaming.
He said that the California-based firm has been streaming movies it claims are meant for audiences younger than 13 years but which are full of violence, drugs and pornography and with the potential to radicalise children.
“If it has to operate in Kenya, let it conform with our regulations and Cap 222,”said Mr Kosgey.

Let's be more objective. It will benefit users more if Netflix is talking to regulators. For example, without a CDN or local cache, internet cost will remain high. And that requires local presence, or talking with local partners, and acceptance by the powers that be. Although some of the pronouncements by KFCB calls for these managers to be taken back to IQ class. For example "The introduction of Netflix in Kenya should be seen in the control of the ongoing War on Terror." surely, Netflix does not have user generated content like say Youtube, which has been used as a tool for radicalisation. KFCB should be more worried of Youtube.

i.e: if they are even interested in the Kenyan market ... Nigeria je? ᐧ On 21 January 2016 at 19:50, Mwendwa Kivuva via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
