Re: [Skunkworks] Cisco 2960 Switch Uplink Dual Purpose Ports

Skunks, I need assistance on clarification of the above switch e.g. Cisco Catalyst 2960-48TC-S which has 48 Ethernet 10/100 and 2 dual-purpose ports (10/100/1000 or SFP). Is it possible to use both SFP and 10/100/1000 Ports at the same time or one has to use either 10/100/1000 or SFP? When I check on the running config it shows two Ports i.e. Gi0/1 and Gi0/2 but physically there are four ports i.e. 2 SFP's and 2 Gigabit Ethernet Ports. Thanks and regards, Peter

Skunks, Got it. A dual-purpose port can be configured as either a 10/100/1000 port or as an SFP module port. Only one port can be active at a time. If both ports are connected, the SFP module port has priority. You can set the 10/100/1000 ports to operate at 10, 100, or 1000 Mb/s in full-duplex or half-duplex mode. You can configure them as fixed 10, 100, or 1000 Mb/s (Gigabit) Ethernet ports and can configure the duplex setting. (See the switch software configuration for more information.) You can use Gigabit Ethernet SFP modules to establish fiber-optic connections to other switches. These transceiver modules are field-replaceable, providing the uplink interfaces when inserted in an SFP module slot. You use fiber-optic cables with LC connectors to connect to a fiber-optic SFP module. from this link :- http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/cisco_ie3000/hardware/inst...
