I got this document forward denoting a zuku price increase as from February 2016. Essentially they are upgrading internet speeds with a slight price bump. What are your thoughts ? https://dochub.com/kevinomondibd979fe7/JonP3o/zuku-fiber-price-increase-noti...

I was comfortable with my 10Mbps. I honestly don't see the need to cough an additional 500/= for an extra 5Mbps that I don't need. On 19 January 2016 at 15:38, Kevin Omondi via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

If you have been in the ISP space (I mean the supplier end [😊] ) this is a really cooked up story. ISP is a business of numbers. The higher the numbers, the cheaper it is to sustain a single subscriber, hence more profitable. Zuku is telling us the opposite. Generally, over 50% of customers don't even utilize their allocated (highly shared) capacity! Cost per megabit significantly drops with higher subs. Trying to create an impression that ALL customers need a higher speed and therefore the increment is justified is not only wrong but misleading (any regulatory person reading this??). Zuku is growing its subscriber base and needs someone to cover their overheads (us [☹] ). There are better bandwidth engineering stories out there. Invest in them and just don't increase the prices. Also waiting to hear the difference between R and I. I see there is an increase in I1 and R1 prices without corresponding increase in speeds. What's up with that? Looks like Zuku is finally realizing they have no serious competition and are capitalizing on it. Sad On Wed, Jan 20, 2016 at 7:31 AM, Bwana Lawi <mail2lawi@gmail.com> wrote:

Bwana Lawi, I think the difference is the number of TV channels (between I10 and R10). I have been on R10 for a couple of years and you get the Plus Premium TV package (includes Nickelodeon, FOX, NatGeo Gold, etc) that the I10 doesn’t have. I almost switched to the I10 when they introduced last year until I called Zuku Support to confirm the difference. So if you only need Internet and no interest in TV, then I10 would be perfect (and cheaper). Hope that helps. Zuku like any business has been offering low prices from the start to hook subscribers fast. If you look at the cost of investment and their monthly charges you will clearly see they barely cover their running costs. The price increase has been long overdue if you ask me and they are using the 50% increase in bandwidth as a sweetener knowing very well most subscribers don't require it.

Zuku is growing its subscriber base and needs someone to cover their overheads (us [image: ☹]). There are better bandwidth engineering stories out there. Invest in them and just don't increase the prices. Hello?

I was comfortable with my 10Mbps. I honestly don't see the need to cough an additional 500/= for an extra 5Mbps that I don't need.

I was annoyed by this too. Also the fact that the I10 needs additional moneys to access akina Nat Geo Gold and Viasat nature. Quite annoying. This price increase doesn't add up though but being the typical Kenyan I will pay. But raise hell when Netflix Buffers. One big word = INFLATION. Prices simply increase with time.

Inflation indeed!!! Remember the days fare and prices for goods were increasing with each marginal increase in fuel prices. I'm yet to see any reductions even with the persistent reduction in fuel prices. Rgds, J@m3s On Jan 22, 2016 12:32 AM, "ndungu stephen via skunkworks" < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

James, At least there has been a reduction in fuel prices at the pump (not as steep as the global oil market though). Human traders will always be selfish. Quick to hike, slow to do the opposite, so long as there's no watchdog or loud and bold customers to keep them in check. Regards, Mutinda. Kevin, From the look it will affect everyone. Mine has gone up by 300 bob. Will wait to receive the same and subsequently test the link on 16th Feb. If the speed will up by 50% then this is a good deal. My one cent. I believe these are the things that need addressing...... a) was there any consultations done by the stakeholders? (what is the process of increasing or reducing your costs to the Internet services? is there any? ) b) should the prices of Internet in Kenya be going up or down? c) so the extra charges are for increased speed??? Why?? does it mean that the current packages speed was not part of the cost? or ? ...... Me thinks , we should should be having better speed anyway.... I think these should be added to the questions the new CS should address in the stakeholders meeting. my 2 cents *'Chance Favors the prepared mind'* - Louis Pasteur On Tue, Jan 19, 2016 at 3:48 PM, Peter Mugoh via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
