Safaricom profits continue to grow despite the fact that call rates, sms rates, registration rates are a 'fraction' of what they used to be say 8 years ago - why? more customers, more services..
so convergence may create new products/services and new markets, potentially adding a few million more customers that they could charge 'small' access fees - i think this is what happened with most global telcos

I think the first point you make answers your question - there will be that convergence in sevices in the end, its just about how fast that happens and this is largely determined by regulation..CCK / KPLC on this list to clarify?
