Are kenyan developers and big let down to the Kenayn ICT sector?

Coming upshortly.. I'm going to make this the last chapter on the developer story and I shall also remove my SOS signature.

Thank Heaven! I thought we'd never hear the end of it On 5 November 2010 02:07, aki <aki275@gmail.com> wrote:

Do you mean you still have not setup a Kenyan Developer Index or shall I do it for you? ;-) On Fri, Nov 5, 2010 at 9:13 AM, Ndungi Kyalo <ndungi@gmail.com> wrote:

Aki, I don't know if there is someone who has setup that index, or is missing class holed up in his/her dorm room right now doing it, so, just do it! Heck, make money off it, theres nothing wrong with doing that! Make it free if you want, if you feel like, vet the developers who get on it. And why can you do all that? Because YOU created it. So don't reply to this thread, start designing the entities and their properties. If you do not have the time to do that and you got some cash so spare, go to strathmore or jkuat or (put here your favourite source of raw programmer talent :-) or odesk.com and pay someone to do it.... Get my drift? On Fri, Nov 5, 2010 at 9:18 AM, aki <aki275@gmail.com> wrote:

Been reading this soap opera called skunkworks and I cant tell if its a political organization, Kirimas family story or a tech mail list. On Fri, Nov 5, 2010 at 9:27 AM, Peter Karunyu <pkarunyu@gmail.com> wrote:

@Kimani, actually the road map of this thread may help bring out why we are not doing enough to bring out a proper developer community and also contributing to the localization/re-inventions, re-evolving technologies and platforms in KE. Soap opera or not, the story has to be told in whether crude or polite ways. The writing is on the wall and something needs to be done. As I see it, either one is part of the problem or part of the solution. It's going to take my valuable time to writeup this thread and I don't see anyone prizing/funding me to do this. However, if you feel this thread is out of place, I can spare myself the time and effort and also save you the agony of reading it. Maybe we should put this thead to a poll? Rgds. Thread and contribution widthdrawn due to time constraints. From me, expect this as the last thread on the developer subject. Bottom line and as Rad and Mwachi said earlier, there is a big need to step up. I hope that though the crudeness may have offended some, it was not intended so. Hopefully at somepoint in time we will have a developer board/index and also creation of more and more avenues for local developers to self create and produce the applications ( no matter what the platform ) that are better suited to local enviroments. I know you know this and you do not need the likes of me to rant about it. I don't post threads to self justify that am right or wrong nor do I derive any benefit or pleasure from such. Enough said, the clock is ticking. Over to the mailing list as it was before my "interruption". Gentlemen, Ladies. Catchup later. Asanteni. :-) Rgds.

Aki, maybe you could refine your question a bit. There are some very Kenyan software companies doing good things for the local and international markets, however, i suspect this is not what you mean? On Fri, Nov 5, 2010 at 9:07 AM, aki <aki275@gmail.com> wrote:

True Peter, the subject line does not include those who are actively moving forward. It will just be a general comments. :-) On Fri, Nov 5, 2010 at 9:14 AM, Peter Karunyu <pkarunyu@gmail.com> wrote:
