Microsoft seeks to position Windows Phone 7 by bullying Android

Reading some article in the forthcoming issue of CIO East Africa<http://www.cio.co.ke>, Microsoft is one of the few mobile OS producers who still sell the OS, yes, sell the OS. On top of this they do not allow customization of the OS. And what do the phone manufacturers get from this shitty deal? Well, they are protected from Intellectual Property suits. As a demonstration of this , Microsoft has gone ahead to sue Motorola for infringing on MS IP on their Android phones. Motorola, once ardent deployers of Windows Mobile turned down the shitty deal by saying they saw no value in such a deal. HTC were forced to cross patent on some of their Android phones. What difference does Microsoft have from Mungiki who will sell you security and demonstrate by going ahead to rob those who did not buy security. Oh, and If the Apple event, If and only If it was deliberately not streamed in Africa, As an African, I would feel like a betrayer if I went to buy out one of their products. Again, this is IFF it was not deliberately streamed. -- with Regards: Cunning Nairobi Hawkers http://gramware.blogspot.com/2010/10/nairobi-hawkers-and-fraud.html

Microsoft is flexing its muscles again, this time round bullying Acer and Asustek<http://www.cio.co.ke/view-all-world-news-stories/2110-report-microsoft-targeting-acer-asustek-over-android.html>. shouldn't they focus on building a better product instead? and will this have any effect on Android, who have a similar Java lawsuit to the Oracle one, from Gemalt<http://www.cio.co.ke/view-all-world-news-stories/2109-android-faces-new-lawsuit-this-time-from-gemalto.html>.

Unfortunately this is the nature of the game. Litigation is as good a weapon as any to get ahead of the competition. On Tue, Oct 26, 2010 at 4:02 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

We should never have brought the marketers to engineering!

Microsoft is like a spoilt kid who wants candy after amenyimwa for bad behaivour. When everybody is moving with android and leaving their expensive OSes, Now they want to share androids success but they are trying to say, "Its either you share or no one eats" On Wed, Oct 27, 2010 at 12:51 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

Ati Apple dint stream to Africa ?? Expound; cos how would they differentiate African computer/devices streaming from the rest ? And some ISPs are US based in some countries...

@ndungu , IP addresses. and I said IFF(If and only If). Its sad to discriminate a market cause most of the people there are too poor to afford your product. I mean, how does denying a live stream cost you, is it even more expensive? On the other hand, someone might have been given the contract to distribute the traffic and decided that Africa did not make a business sense hence left out. As for Microsoft, after they are through with their lawsuits, will this mean that more people will buy Windows phones cause they are good at suing their competitors?

For microsoft;; not a wise decision.

Did I read somewhere the microsoft brand is dying, and maybe ... just maybe, in 10 or so years, we might be buying many more Apple's and not Windows? Think abt the apples in our pockets, palm, lap, desktop etc. May be even Google OS will be ahead of windows. On Thu, Oct 28, 2010 at 1:06 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:

The brand as analysts say is still a bit far from dead; They may not have a lot of say in devices and other areas as Apple/Google has really made strides.. but on desktop OS; i believe they may be here for quite sometime. But Steve Ballmer is still thinking ahead; and he is tryin to move Windows/Office to the 'cloud' ; Such that; should demand for 'away from desktop' computing becomes obsolete and 'cloud' becomes fashionable; they will be there, remaining relevant to their Windows customer base.

In my opinion, Microsoft moved to cloud computing as a reaction to Google's onslaught. They were more interested in retaining the OS in the consumer devices and charging the consumer for that. I mean, who does not know the cloud reduces consumer spending.

That was his "chess move" reply; When 'cloud' was being popularised in the 90s - Microsoft saw it better to ignore and milk the cow of Desktop OS/Apps for all its worth,,, Now the cow is about to reach EOL depopularised by competition; and heavenly 'clouds' are beginning to look more and more like a bright idea ... Of course since many Windows users dont know such history, they shall be very happy and congratulate Microsoft for inventing such a 'cheap' scheme called 'cloud computing'; And Microsoft shall say that they have always been thinking about their customers ..bla bla..

Ndung'u; Don't cheapen M$ guys, they had cloud infrastructure in place a long time ago, further down memory lane, earlier than google. Its only that unlike Safaricom, they slept on the job. You search their archives and see the direction they were taking under Gates. Even now, M$ Office Cloud (its free!) is better than Google web Office.
