........ local ICT software/hardware/specialist development...Sound critical..

Hey Guys,I mixed up with below quote i cant accept \reject it. Yes ..you are critically right but you ve failed to suggest any solution.I have seen this trend even in TZ there are guys who are good in coding but fail to code somthing good and most of them end up using that coding ability as a bait to get a job, get thrown into using a commercial product that have less need of coding thatn administration and user suppor->then they go for MBA get a pay raise-> then go on advising others to do the same OVER. Kenyans also are falling into a trape of mobile apps BUZZ. Chances are not many will come up with any useful thing. I seggest people outside IT can help out contributing to IT guys what feature they thing is needed in Mobile, Web, or desktop then IT-MINDS would click.Other wise I dont see where many of us will come up with any new idea.We are forced to follow by media, companies, by our social trend etc. Unless someone lives in China where he can have as many substitutes for any foreign tech like tweeter, facebook ,youtube etc ( population advantage-in capital accumulation same in india, and other populous asin countries ). Well,I think mindeset matters a lot..its within our mindset where our intellectual vision will come.We are blinds. We dont see opportunities in simple formulae.MPESA was vodacom`s pidea but its Safaricom success. The secret is to see where we can manetise our idea once implemented.Otherwise we will see western people inventing things our playgrounds. Well down the page I have places some details on one of our software programs(EASYSALE POS).Plse have a look(--its not a copy and paste--) ..........On Mon, Feb 20, 2012 at 21:05, aki <aki275@gmail.com> wrote:
Hi @Wash, just some comments, not a thread hijack. :-)
In as much as I try to crusade for local ICT software/hardware/specialist development, am also stuck in the deepest end of the wells in the consumer chain. Meaning even I too cannot create everything and would have to find a software to make things work, as I do with e.g Acronis. It will be impossible to produce everything--literally--whether we have another 100 years to do so because the ICT sector is too diverse. What are our chances to be producers, not assemblers, because of the style of economic system? Around 0.0001%. Based on this figure, I'd not be surprised that the Tech Cities will be 99% extensions of large international or local corporates looking at local and regional markets, while also looking at local hires to fill the usual positions except core production because of boxed units. That is why most of all other sectors like marketing/sales/finance/legal/ICT Hardware are doing well and the education system based to produce this outcome each year. But nowhere is there any room for local ICT production.
Which also begs the question as to why our local dot net programmers have not created software on windows systems such as the one in question on this thread. But try we must if we can, who knows things could change in the future. * *:-)

Hello @Nicholas from Arusha, :-) IMHO, I think a lot of the programmers in Kenya are involved in the similar things as what you do i.e. business software just that they don't like to talk about it or contribute to this list for fear of competition or other reasons which is understandable. This could one of the many reasons why programmers are looking at fast turn around times when it comes to free-code reuse thus the high popularity of free code. I believe for now it is important, as @Phares suggested, that the economies needs tech solutions at present and not in the future. Unfortunately, that is a truth to this given the difference of Apps development between us and others who do it out there, there is too big a gap to catch up soon. Some thots. Rgds.
