Hello collegues, I have been having these strange encounter with the new hp laptop models mentioned above. it comes with windows 7 preinstalled and does not come with the restore plus discs either for windows 7 or xp thus one cannot reinstall the laptops. I googled and according to hp sites it states that one has to order for the recovery discs for windows 7 or xp. It does however have the recovery options for using the F11 keys to restore the system to factory settings. I think these discs are important when one needs to perform a repair the operating system or in the event one replaces the hard disc. This is abit strange.Desktops are very ok since all the discs are present. Any tips, any hp consultant out there? Even if this is a step of cubing piracy,.....they should have all the discs shipped together with the laptops. And any tools available for partitioning windows 7 apart from shrinking the partitions? I tried using hirens boot disc but it messesd up my system. Please avoid hirens on windows 7 for partitoning...or maybe someone has a fix to this as well.. Cheers! -- WALLACE NGENE TARURU wallacengene@gmail.com

You were supposed to check the resource cds before you purchased the computer but if you know the sellers kindly ask them to give them to you coz some of these business people open products n chuck some few items here n there, meaning that they've learnt that most of the customers jst buy accessories for the sake of buying they dont check on whatever they are buying. If you think they are genuine people they will give you the resource cds.Gudday On Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 1:58 PM, wallace ngene <wallacengene@gmail.com>wrote:

I bought a HP laptop last year, and they give you the option of creating *one copy* of a recovery DVD set. It creates about 3 DVDs for Windows Vista. As for partitions, I've used the Linux tool GParted to shrink Windows partitions without messing them up. You'll need to boot from a live CD like Ubuntu. Then go to; System / Administration / Partition Editor Asante. Erick On Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 5:58 AM, wallace ngene <wallacengene@gmail.com>wrote:

Wallace, I'm not familiar with any other partitioning software. How big is the hard drive? The older computers I've worked with have less than 100GB capacity, and partition in less than half an hour. Asante. Erick On Wed, Apr 7, 2010 at 7:38 AM, wallace ngene <wallacengene@gmail.com>wrote:
