Hi guys, Is anyone on the list knowledgeable in the above stated? The intended scenario is installation of the above devices and have them piggy back on an existing WLAN as opposed to point to point connections by addition of more Wi-Fi devices (eg. Nano Stations). The same can the be routed to an IP capable DVR machine for remote viewing over the web and/or VPN. Also, any suggestions as to the make and model of the cameras in question? Thanks.

Ubiquti AirCam cameras are good - the only drawback is the current models don't have IR/Night Vision. They output RTSP upto 720p (as opposed to MJPEG which IMO is a PITA) bila shida, and this can be scaled downwards depending on your bandwidth/quality requirements. They can run stand-alone - with their inbuilt web-based software - or you can connect them to a windows/mac/ubuntu server for NDVR functionality. What's really going for them at the moment is the free server software with motion detection and all the other bells & whistles - details on ubnt.com Other than that I would go for Mobotix given their reviews...but I haven't played with them yet so I can't vouch for them. However the UBNT cameras are pretty cheap for their features - going for around 10k apiece for the outdoor model.

@Haggai thanks, Impressive, but for security reasons, it is imperative they be night vision enabled. Anything with that particular capability as well as some, if not most of the Ubiquiti devices? Sent from my iPhone On Aug 28, 2012, at 11:23, Haggai Nyang <haggai.nyang@gmail.com> wrote:

None of the UBNT cameras have night vision at the moment. In the same breath, getting a good OSS NVR package for Linux is not easy. The most feature packed I've seen is the UBNT one (supports Ubuntu only) and it also works only with the AirCam cameras. [?]
From their forums they have the night vision models in the pipeline, but no ETA. Once they are available they'll be a viable option.
