MHEG-5 not MPEG-5. Thanks for pointing that out! If you fancy teletext, then MHEG-5 (teletext for DVB signals) could be of interest. The only local channel with teletext is KBC. If your TV has a teletext function, you can scroll through KBC news with teletext. I lost interest in about 10 minutes :-) ./bernard On Fri, Sep 28, 2012 at 2:49 PM, James <jkiiru@gmail.com> wrote:

Ben, on a different note, suggest to me the exiting stuff I can do with the box locally. I'm of the impression that it may not be functionally compliant as an STB. Tony.

And while at it, anyone with info on what became of the Samsung threat below: http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/?id=2000054901&cid=456&articleID=2000054901 Methinks they must have redirected their efforts into the smart TV series instead.

A quick one Bernard:
From the photos Im seeing its got an ethernet port. Is this an Input port?
My scenario: I need to transmit video from a computer over a distance of about 1Km. The only link I have between the two points is a Point to Point, wireless. I need the signal on the other end to enter a "box" as an analogue signal. My thoughts so far have been encode to mpeg4,. transmit via wireless and then decode back to analogue. So my question in brief, Can I run vlc on one send a uni or multicast to this device and use it as my decoder? If yes ill be a very happy customer of about 5 pieces... The ethernet port serves as an access to the internet for various services e.g. software updates, imdb, youtube, netflix, etc.I'm not sure you can install software in it But maybe you can hack it to suit your needs. You can research on Dreambox DVB-S2 box (also for sale) which runs in linux and might provide the flexibility you require. ./bernard On Fri, Sep 28, 2012 at 10:27 PM, Areba Collins [ @BrainiacKE ® ] < arebacollins@gmail.com> wrote:
