For those having telkom Kenya as there ISP. How is the quality of service.

If you use it as a backup connection fine but as a primary connection, kindly think otherwise. When the connection goes down.....(dont even think about it) very few words. not good

BTW, I was also thinking of getting their Kenstream service...anyboty here using it? Timo. On 1/4/12, Nd'wex Common <flexycat@gmail.com> wrote:

Kenstream service is very expensive and also very unreliable. Logn time ago I used to use it, and they then charged by the kilometre. I am not sure if that has changed. When it goes down, it can stay that way for week. The purpose of a Kenstream line is to do point to point link, and I am sure other telcos have better and more reliable services. But may be things have changed and it has become a cheaper and reliable service.

Telkom Orange, Reliable in Nairobi and Major Towns , but as somebody has said use it as a backup and not the main connections On Thu, Jan 5, 2012 at 9:07 AM, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

Is anyone at nbi west having Zuku fiber service? Mine and the neighbors has been out for about 3 hrs now... I need to know so i can stop wasting time waiting and calling especially if theres maintenance going on. All services Tv,phone and Internet affected. Gitau

Hi Kimondo You can get a more informative answer if you tell us the location in which you are planning to us TK. About Kenstream carrier services they are damn expensive and prepare to pay over 100k for just for the carrier service and the on top of that you will pay for the internet. In this age of technology, I wouldn't advise you to use Kenstream unless you are looking @ having connectivity in very very remote connectivity! I have site in very remote area and just for your info even remote places like Dadaab, Garissa, Lodwar have Wimax so look for other options like Fiber, Wimax or even Vsat. I think for the sort of thing you're looking for and assuming you havent done so your requirements pretty much tell what you need to do. If you need advice Id say go for Safaricom. they really do have the widest coverage ie a one stop shop. Telkom does have a country wide coverage. I however don't believe you'll get a good level of service from them (purely based on member contributions here). Maybe we should do a quick survey on all these providers since we on this list pretty much use them all. evaluate on: - coverage -support -proper installations -proper customer engagement ie which ISP has the most helpful sales team ie they answer your questions honestly and -accurately - on point and can callup the relevante teams if shit hits the fan - like if you asked for DMVPN and IPv6 and there's some sweat appears - diversity of connectivity ie L2/L3 vpn, traditional tdm etc etc If you were to do such a survey what would you be looking for, what would you ask respondents for? You could also do a mix and match ie for each location pick the best one and do your own mpls network<http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/eanog> .... i think i was clear...i based my mail on responses from the listers. What Im curious about is what exactly you'd be looking for. If I was incharge of a network, I know different ISP's are different in strength of both coverage and appropriate technologies at different places. For this reason alone and to leverage all their strengths, I would most likely get L1/L2 service from different ISP's and do my own MPLS or whatever I need to do. but that's neither here nor there....
