Code4Democracy Hackathon: 18th and 19th August 2012 @ PAWA254

*Sharing this - albeit late, was posted on the Nairobi GTUG. * At last month's Hacks/Hackers meetup, we mentioned that we would have a hackathon this month as part of our monthly Hacks/Hackers Nairobi Chapter activity. The Code4Democracy Hackathon will happen next week 18th and 19th September (Tuesday and Wednesday) at PAWA254. The Code4Democracy event is a hackathon purposed to generate widespread interest and awareness among programmers, the media, activists, and beginning development of a wide range of open data solutions to pressing governance concerns. You may register for the hackathon here: https://docs.google.com/a/mtotowajirani.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dG1... This will ensure that volunteer time of programmers and designers is focused on solving real problems for real people. • Any solution developed will be non-proprietary and made available on the event’s website and/or other channels, and free for anyone to use, adapt or apply. • Submissions may be any kind of software application, be it for the web, a personal computer, a mobile handheld device, console, SMS, or any software platform broadly available to the public. • Participation is free. Organizers will work to invite computer programmers, web designers, and content people (including social activists and journalists), as well as Government officials, and publicize the event and principles. • Participating organizations may not use Hackathon to make money for themselves The event schedule is as follows: Day 1 09:00 - Coffee & light breakfast. 10:00 – Brief on Hackathon – Defintion of problemsets 11:00 – Mentors tour 13:00 - Lunch 13:45 - Coding 16:00 - Talk – DDJ – How Data can change the journalism field. 19:00 - Dinner 19:45 – Coding Continues Day 2 09:00 - Coffee & light breakfast.
