Hi all, I have been planning to start a biz for sometime now but have had a hitch. I have done several searches now around 10 times.Each search costs 100/-.And every now and then I am told that name isnot available.Upto 10 unique names!Is there somethng they are hiding or is a strategy to raise some cash through wananchi? Thanks @Pithon, I have really looked for unique names,n I rarely have issues with new names.Even for international firms which arent here locally but with a Kenyan tag.I have seen many firms with almost similar names(just a small difference). I do think they have something to hide coz i've been through the painstaking process myself and it's frustrating that you can't verify that indeed a name is taken yourself. I also wonder why they still have the now defunct charge, which I beleive was to cover the cost of manually searching through the register. I stand to be corrected though... Lol.. I like that,and am really looking for a very very unique name though they wont verify to me that the names are in use by 'some1' else. I feel cheated.It is better for the cost to be high than 100/- but you dont how many searches you will make. Even yahoo ,gmail etc will let you know that the names arenot available,but they will give you alternative names closer to your choice. Be unique.. start from who.is to make sure that the domain name of the company you want to register is not available.Thats where i started my journey to registering my business. I made sure that the (TLD) xxxxxx.com is not available. This gave me a better chance of securing the name and the domain at the same time... when i went to registra it almost cost me 100/= for name search since i was 99% the name was not available and within 2days i was already registering my business. Its true that multinational companies some have local tags . Avoid a situation of having company name like steveholding limited and a domain like this (steve-holding.com ama steveholdingkenya.com) since the simpler domain steveholding.com is not available Best Regards Moses
