Are we agreeable that you have consulted Google and failed to find an answer? If so, I'd love to know what IMAP4 engine you are using (and on what OS if you don't mind). After that, if you look at the user's folder (assuming ~/Maildir/cur or whatever path you use on the server, are the e-mails always listed there? Not disappearing when Outlook fails to display them?)
