My experience around Machakos has been one of pin-point accuracy (+/- 2m) ..So long as you have an open sky above you and you are not in motion the GPS app will work well for you. Once in a while (depending on the price of your hardware) it gets a bit off. On the other hand, whenever I look up my location at Gitaru, the app claims that am somewhere in Ondiri near Alliance High School :-(

Yes, it is affected by cloud cover. But nowadays the effect is not as much due to assisted GPS where the device uses base stations to get an approximate location which helps it lock to satellites faster. Its the satellites locking thats usually hampered by cloud cover. On a day with clear sky GPS locking happens pretty fast, but also remember that buildings have even more adverse effects compared to cloud cover due to canyon effect. Anywayz you can find out more about this stuff on the net. They r some of the things you will come across when developing mobile applications that utilize GPS.
