kai wulff on balance of power

I found the "balance of power" statement interesting. On thinking about it I found it to be spot on esp in discouraging deviation from the norm thus stiffling innovation. Locally guys go for the big guy and the small guy who can later become the "better option" is left to die. A few illustrations. 1. Every car infront is a T. 2. T.. my country my beer. K will never have a chance with its S brand. 3. 90% of new coders know VB and nothing else. 4. The better option has over 14m subscribers as they claimed yesterday in the papers. 5. Majority of accountants will only use QB 6. And the list goes on. -- Regards

I also liked the submarine <-> grain transport ship analogy. -- Josiah Mugambi Charles de Gaulle<http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/c/charles_de_gaulle.html> - "The better I get to know men, the more I find myself loving dogs." 'Minutes' in the traditional sense of the word was difficult - information overload - but Muchemi has some points on another thread... here's mine (blogged earlier): (A few other guys I think are putting theirs together). Kai’s definition of true broadband – being able to do what you want, when you want to online, and without bandwidth restriction. He is on a mission to (hopefully?) change the market’s perception of data operators as being out make money of the common mwananchi at all costs. On local content he likened the submarine cables to ships bringing grain from abroad to Kenya (and the rest of East Africa). We should be worried though, as what will happen to the ‘grain’ farmer in Kenya. For good ideas, reasonable partnerships are possible with KDN. He also mentioned licensing models, and said that ideally there should broadly be infrastructure licenses and service licenses. Rolling out infrastructure is expensive thus these licenses would be pricey enough to discourage gold diggers. However service licences ought to be free. In Kenya, it is a unified license which is a bit tricky when it comes to empowering startups and encouraging local content. -- Josiah Mugambi Stephen Leacock<http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/s/stephen_leacock.html> - "I detest life-insurance agents: they always argue that I shall some day die, which is not so." Peter, Why are 90% of new coders on VB still? Visual Basic 6.0 or Visual Basic.Net? For desktop / client apps used in retail shops (and offices) VB (6.0) is more than enough but is PHP not more popular nowadays on the Server side at least? Recently a SW Dev told me that most accountants / businesses are unable (too ignorant) to use QuickBooks in a way that creates more Business Intelligence for them. Why is this so? How easy is it to customize QuickBooks? Am aware this is your competitor so .. ________ Kai had stuff to say that needs to be blogged if it was not recorded. Do not miss out on it. Believe you me on that one.
