Kamau Tirus must have lost the meaning of Open Source somewhere, as you may have already realized. If the guys at AT used Open Source software to come up with what they have, then, depending on the licensing model of what they used, they may be obliged to reveal (what word to use?) their modifications - give back to the community. Let Tirus tell us what is so Open Source about those products he spoke about. I am heading to Buffet Park guys - let's continue the discussions there:-) -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

Washington; Alliance Technologies (www.at.co.ke ) develops all its application using the Free and open Source Software (FOSS) methods. Our revenue model is based mainly on support services. We give our software freely to only our clients for the time being but our solutions will be available for download at Source forge and our website in the very near future. The source code of the software is usually given away, and pre-compiled binary software also accompanies it for convenience of our clients. As a result, the source code can be freely modified by all who use our solution. However, there can be some license-based restrictions on re-distributing the software. Generally, software can be modified and re-distributed for free, as long as credit is given to the original manufacturer of the software which we do. In addition, FOSS can generally be sold commercially, as long as the source-code is provided. *Note: The word “free” has two legitimate general meanings; it can refer either to freedom or to price. When we speak of “free software”, we're talking about freedom, not price. (Think of “free speech”, not “free beer”.) Specifically, it means that a user is free to run the program, change the program, and redistribute the program with or without changes.* see also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_models_for_open_source_software and we would love to hear more of your comments on: http://www.at.co.ke/blog/ [?] ** On Fri, Oct 1, 2010 at 5:27 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:

It's hard to believe you, when we can't see any source code, or any license. Or maybe you *plan* to make your software "open source" in the "very near future"? :) Joseph.
