Skunkers, Looking at what is happening in our industry, my thoughts are, *The Bubble has Busted* in the sector. Key players in the market, KDN, Safcom, Access Kenya, SGK, WOL, Africa Online, Airtel, YU, TKL, are all crying foul and embarking on either retrenchments, mergers, or restructuring to remain relevant in the market. Questions. Is it a bubble burst? If bubble burst, is this not a premature burst as Kenya is still way far behind in as far as ICT penetration is concerned? Could it be that we are employing foreign policies that are not relevant in this market? Or were we so short sited to predict what the market would be in a few days to come? It is happening everywhere, the demand for bandwidth is increasing but the price per bandwidth is decreasing. Service providers need to get creative with how they sell bandwidth.Solutions include; value added services, cost efficient operations,automatisation of processes and functions etc etc. Only the best will survive. Industries tend to clean themselves out( correction) I believe the problems companies are facing are all normal, but like someone said its time to start thinking value addition not just connectivity . I suspect some companies might have planned with some grand realities in mind that didnt take off as quickly as expected( ICT park venture , BPO etc) Again, only the best will survive.
