@Thea lol! :-)) some thots. I read that one. There's some humor in it too. The Calendar has the normal days for the entire year, yet the announcement is made at the last hour in the final days of the final month of the year catching everyone by surprise. Its kind of a reminder of the single party days when the mighty leaders would wake up one morning and, feeling in a *totalitarian mood*, would make all sorts of announcements. I'm not sure but the announcement may also be un-constitutional i.e have the laws been changed on public holidays to effect such announcements therefore govt offices, parliament etc too cannot have the day off? I'm sure many of us have planned the off days to promote local tourism as early as Jan so can plans change? I don't think so. :-)

.... eh, kwani what did mutua say? can someone be as kind as to summarise it for some of us On 12/24/10, aki <aki275@gmail.com> wrote:

At this point, Kenyans should have learned that the Government has been trying to appease the business community, hence, unlike the old times, it is now more prevalent of them to announce lack of a holiday than a sudden holiday. Any uncalendared holiday will be announced weeks in advance,

LOL @ Claire! Well put! I wonder why the Kenyan government feels they have to impose such things on the public I remember a similar incident earlier this year, was it Idd or something that was announced at the last minute that it shall not be observed as a public holiday? What is the sense in this if the rest of the world are observing it? On Dec 24, 2010 9:55am, Ruth Were <nafuna@gmail.com> wrote:

A quick search : The UK is benefitting on holidays 27th & 28th. 27th is Bank Holiday and 28th is Boxing day ( but is 26th Boxing day? ). Corrections welcome. Some article : Rail workers to strike on Bank Holidays .......................................RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: "The spirit of old Scrooge is alive and well on Northern Rail and our conductor members have shown in this ballot that they will not be treated as second-class citizens this Christmas. "There is no agreement in place on Northern Rail for the additional public holidays on December 27 and 28 that everyone else will be benefiting from this year. You only have to look at the sporting calendar to see that these days are full-on public holidays everywhere other than in the minds of the senior management at Northern Rail. "No matter how many phoney arguments Northern Rail throw up, they cannot escape the fact that this is a company that has made over £85 million in profits off the backs of their workforce in the past four years. The boardroom is awash with cash and it is outrageous that staff are being told to work these additional Christmas public holidays at flat rate while the Northern Rail shareholders are relaxing in front of the telly with the warm feeling that £80 million in dividend payments brings." http://www.dinningtontoday.co.uk/news/rail_workers_to_strike_on_bank_holiday...
