Cisco becomes a major Linux server vendor overnight

Interesting read. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13505_3-10370165-16.html Cisco (Quietly) Adds to Linux Kernel http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/osrc/article.php/3807516/Cisco-Quietly-Adds...

Anthony, Interesting read, but i would add and say Cisco is joining the others, Nokia has been doing that for a while for some of the telecommunication equipments. regards Patrick

Can't get any better, now we are all fully compatible. Regards ./TheMburu On Sun, Feb 20, 2011 at 12:12 PM, Patrick Karanja <wabethi@gmail.com> wrote:

BTW, Microsoft actually contributes to the Linux Kernel

Linus Trovalds response to Microsoft's drivers code in the Linux Kernel Asked whether he has even looked at the code, Linus Torvalds replied: “I haven’t. Mainly because I’m not personally all that interested in driver code (it doesn’t affect anything else), especially when I wouldn’t use it myself. So for things like that, I just trust the maintainers. I tend to look at code when bugs happen, or when it crosses multiple subsystems, or when it’s one of the core subsystems that I’m actively involved in (ie things like VM, core device resource handling, basic kernel code etc). I’ll likely look at it when the code is actually submitted to me by the maintainers (Greg [Kroah-Hartman], in this case), just out of morbid curiosity.”

Hey Antony, Good to know about Nokia, Alcatel Lucent has also been using Linux on their recent PABXs. Kudos to Cisco though, I could do somehting with $100,000! I believe Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unity (& Connection), Cisco Contact Center and Cisco Telepresence Multipoint Switch all run on Linux.
