You probably need to talk[0] to your virtualization vendor on what hardware is supported. [0] Basically check for hardware compatibility with VMWare or HyperV. I recently realized that some server hardware I have (with 8x320GB, 8GB RAM, 2x3.0GHz) is compatible with HyperV but not VSphere and as such it's lying in my yard, unused.
