Hello Claire, do you know how to use the internet? please search using keyword : TEMPLATES . This will take you to sites that have excellent templates for use. Why pay for something that is freely available? You can save on tons of money, which you can re-invest into your business. Once you know what template you need, use a simple tool to edit them and tell your hosting provider to publish them. *And thats the money saving tip for the day. :-)* Hope this Helps.. ( HTHs )

*Since I'm sure your hosting service is offering php, then have a look at these ( one of a few hundered of sites to look out for templates ). Save on time, money. For an average of 55-125USD, you can pickup an excellent commercial template and be operational within 1 day. * ** http://www.templatemonster.com/ is a good place to start. *another money saving tip of the day! :-)*

wewe Aki stay out of this! Some of us make money from such freelance jobs and what is so wrong with Claire providing income for small-time hustlers? (e.g. me) Your info is appreciated but don't spoil business for this hustler! On Wed, Nov 25, 2009 at 10:39 AM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

Though not a designer i tend to think its a fantastic opportunity for an application to be generated locally which will have a kenyan look and taste. any awesome local designers do your thing for Claire template monster can be used to guide not replicate.

This would be a superb opportunity for a ninjitsu designer and code ninja to whip up something awesome for Claire, all under USD$ 55, that being the cheapest template on template monster. On Wed, Nov 25, 2009 at 11:06 AM, Benjamin <anangwe@gmail.com> wrote:

I think that every business i unique and as far as web design goes it is alot better to have something designed with your business in mind. I tried the templating way but resorted to designing my own css rather than just slapping on some design i find online. Not that i don't find the design work up to scratch but i just usually don't seem to find something that makes me feel that its the best. i think its like the way home cooked food(for those who can cook) taste better and is healthier (IMO) than fast food. wahenga walisema - "cheap is expensive" I think theres nothing wrong with claire asking for web design services. Let the vendors, designers or whoever make their case then their work can speak for itself. I refer here to those who actually can design rather than those who have superior skills in finding templates - remember the kisstv website thread. My 2 cents. @Solomon, all I was trying to do was enlighten Claire that she can save on money if she used the internet correctly. And she can save big time.

Aki, maybe Claire doesn't want to concern herself with the vagaries of XHTML 1.0, making sure the content is googlebot friendly, securing the contact us form, maybe thats why she needs someone to take care of all that. While templates will save her a pile of cash, customizing them willl cost her a handful of hair :-) On Wed, Nov 25, 2009 at 11:19 AM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

Hallo @Peter, I disagoo kidogo. She is running a small or a startup business and one value of that is to save as much as possible on infrastructure, costs etc. Now if something is freely available, then I fear she is being exploited for something that she does not need to pay for or pay large amounts for. Rather, for freelancers the aproach should be this : hey choose your template and I shall customize it for you at this much amount. ? Anyway, watch next year, how far I take the free templates and coding libraries on to some commercial levels, pending if the finances will be there and most likely on asp.net ... :-) On another note, freelancers need to watch out for major changes with systems like CMS where clients can use service provider templates to get their sites done the same day. How will they deal with this? Hosting Service providers in Kenya are doing kenyans a big dis-service. CMS has been around for almost 5 years, it is almost a hosting standard now. Me thots.. :-) Rgds.

@aki. Its good you have offered her given her valuable insight on the possibilities out there. Its a "cheaper" option but to many disadvantages especially for a startup. The template layouts should be used as skeletons for the final design. Unfortunately, in her case the templates wont support the scripting she requires so she shall end up contracting someone do this for her. Startup or established, every organization requires unique web presence. Using templates does not suffice especially for startup companies. You need a niche, which templates do not provide. Your clients might use your website and other promotional media to judge the quality of products and service that you shall provide. Spend an extra 20,000 to get things done right. If she is not a designer, she shall waste valuable time customizing a template which she could use in planning the future of the business. You of all people should advocate that a website is not just layout, color, font, images etc that the template provides. The website will just be another book in a library. They are other major elements that clients need to be briefed on like SEO, browser compatibility, load speeds... @aki surely of course if she needed insights on how to customize freely available templates , she would have indicated that in her thread, but instead she needs a site made for .....but as much i would to tell u back off i agree u have a point , yeah maybe she shld consider all possibilities if she is trying to save otherwise let guys do the project within her :) On Wed, Nov 25, 2009 at 12:06 PM, albert kamau <kamau.albert@gmail.com>wrote:

@claire, you can try out TAESK CMS by someone on this list, I checked it out and it looks very nice with a simple to understand and manage back-end unlike Kenya's favorite Joomla. It will give you the simplicity you need while offering you the opportunity to scale up in future. In quick steps you can add pages & content. Alternatively a skunk here could customise for you the Taesk at a half your budget and the other half donate to the brains behind Taesk. 2009/11/25 Frankline Chitwa <frank.chitwa@gmail.com>

In quick steps you can add pages & content. Alternatively a skunk here could customise for you the Taesk at a half your budget and the other half donate to the brains behind Taesk.
@Jared, yes power to the people !!! Now you talking dude.. You have helped her out. :-)

@clement, i just googled your name and none of the links on the top 10 meet the criteria on claire's item (c). I do believe you're experienced to quote a figure of 15k, however i do think specific links to actual web sites would perfect the sales pitch. probably not just for claire but for anyone else interested in the same. It's only IT people who are comfortable offering technical information and services free of charge. Try and approach an auditor to audit your small busines or an accountant to do some basic book keeping for you and you see how much you will be charged for basic book keeping services. wewe Aki stay out of this! Some of us make money from such freelance jobs and what is so wrong with Claire providing income for small-time hustlers? (e.g. me)
Your info is appreciated but don't spoil business for this hustler!

Hi,
I am looking for a web designer to design a website for my small catering business.
It is going to be a simple site with a few pages like: About Us, services, contact form and also a form where potential clients can send requests for my catering services.
Hello Claire,
do you know how to use the internet? please search using keyword : TEMPLATES . This will take you to sites that have excellent templates for use. Why pay for something that is freely available? You can save on tons of money, which you can re-invest into your business. Once you know what template you need, use a simple tool to edit them and tell your hosting provider to publish them.
*And thats the money saving tip for the day. :-)*
Hope this Helps.. ( HTHs )
*Since I'm sure your hosting service is offering php, then have a look at these ( one of a few hundered of sites to look out for templates ). Save on time, money. For an average of 55-125USD, you can pickup an excellent commercial template and be operational within 1 day. *
http://www.templatemonster.com/ is a good place to start.
*another money saving tip of the day! :-)*

@Siro, :-) what so wrong with this? Hey even we give out info on networks, routes, tech etc etc worth mega sometimes but have in principle not protested at anyone using the info to further their gains. Ehhh....? The internet is free, the templates are free, the code is free so shida ni nini? I'm baffled. I don't want to affect anyone's bread but this stuff is freely available, so why should end users not know about it? Come'on Shiro, freelancers Im sure do a much better job than this. But hey, If you can convince Claire that templates is not the way to go as they are free, well good luck. Rgds.

Lol wut? i have a small gathering @ my place over the weekend. I could certainly google 'catering for dummies', possible outcome: 1. I burn myself cooking 2. I land people in hospital 4 food poisoning. now i would rather google for a caterer.
