Hi Francis, I had a look at your website, there is allot to be done, both design and functionality total fail, text overlapping, if I remember well, the about us page was a turn off, seriously the colors :( you cant have orange or red in the main content. As a designer I feel abused. The navigation is forced and out of place, the whole website confuses the user, for an NGO the previous website is way better. I would suggest the following, identify the need, consider the target audience and finally create a user journey. Design is a process. If it doesnt work on paper, it won't work on web as well. Thanks Skunkers for all your comments. Our old site was built on wordpress which am not conversant with. Therefore I could only use the skills and tools I have, which is java + html5. Am not a web designer, but a java developer. If you are a excellent wordress developer who can improve on the old site, please send a quote to vicechair.nairobi@ypkenya.org and cc josekamanthe@gmail.com, Chair.Nairobi@ypkenya.org by 5th of February. We need a new site up & running in 2 weeks time. @ LYP Team, I happened to ask for comments from Skunworks, a mailing list for IT people on comments on our proposed new site. They all seem to like the old site, or they would rather we improve on the old site. Their rating for our new site seem rather low. *See their comments below*. I will therefore request the Website committee led by Erastus explore further their choices(beyond me) and consider hiring someone to improve on our old site. Have asked them(Skunkers) to send quotations. Else we can pay Kelvin who developed the old site to improve it. The old site is built on WordPress which am no conversant with it. And finally I wont charge the club any work done, since i was to, just in case we switch to the proposed site AOB. Most of the LYP seem to like the new site. All skunkers seems to dislike the new site. Anyone with a possible explanation? Its an interesting phenomena worth research. For me it is simpler and easier to navigate..This is from a user's point of view. As a developer though, I appreciate the work done on the second site. _______________________________________________ skunkworks mailing list skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke ------------ List info, subscribe/unsubscribe http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks ------------ Skunkworks Rules http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 ------------ Other services @ http://my.co.ke ------------------------------------------------------------.. Thus the second website is mainly a website made with an aspect of a portfolio someones portfolio a celebrity ETC but its not organization based which handles content more than images. Thus start from the bottom up and you will be surprised how well a concept you can come out with. ------------------------------------------------------------.. From: Derrick Wesonga <wesongaderrick@gmail.com> Date: Sun, Feb 2, 2014 at 10:01 PM To: Skunkworks Mailing List <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> Hi Francis, Probably you should start by defining what you want on a new site, what you want to improve e.t.c that will help your developers/designers in developing the new site. I like the design( minus the menu) of the home page but the transitions need to be smoother and sharper, I am getting overlapping text every so often. The inner pages with the monotonous accordion, grey on black text on heading and orange on black text are not very appealing to a reader. The logo looks forced (by the way why isn't the logo on the home page?) Then site designed by Francis on a corporate site is an absolute no-no Finally the second site does not appear to be in a CMS, is that the direction you want to go?
