Motorola Android- Make or Break for them ?

I have been following phone news lately - mainly because it affects 'us' one way or another-- When the Apple iphone first showed up, the phone manufacturers said "...The devices are too expensive, besides, our market share is much more,, it will take time to catch up.." Two years later, the story changes, motorola and sony-e phones are on their way to the negative margins, mototola more on the negative... and Apple takes 20% of total mobile handset profits despite selling only 5.2 million units in the quarter... Not to mention that they are now one of the biggest media online sales company, churning sales in mp3 [lets go after wall mart], books [lets go after amazon] , apps etc [nokia leads the pack though, at 50% with diverse handsets for all prices and uses] Motorola has had to re-think its "smart phone" production as a way to hit back from below the x-axis to somewhere above it by relaunching this new device... http://motorola-android.com/ Will they make it ? What has Google Android and iPhone done right ? http://motorola-android.com/

The software, motorola became bad at software. (their phones were first to come with itunes, they paved the way for iphones to get sold today ) then they released a crappy itunes model that no one liked, and soon apple made their own killer. Motorola went ahead making phones that always lacked something. Putting low end cameras on high end phones and vice versa, many other good phones missing 3g, those that had had poor cameras. Now they are back at it. The DXTR (CLIQ for Tmobile) is a low end phone(that is what they said, for teenagers). It is the first amongst other 3 phones expected to be announced before year end. Most probably it is the one once code named calgary. Lets wait for the code name sholes and see what is their definition of high end. Their androids have a highly customised layer running on top of the android, called the moto blur. That is what they are counting on, if they mix it with the right hardware On 14/09/2009, Josiah Mugambi <jmugambi@gmail.com> wrote:

@David, yes,, good review on that blog for the "motorola Cliq..." It even featured on KTN morning news, lets see how it goes..

Hey, Oh, KTN featured it? Question, why is it featured on local TV when its not even available in Africa? Anyway, I guess we all are moving at a good speed and this should be a challenge to the manufacturers to open up their markets in Africa. David. Despite the iPhone and Android stuff, most reviews on the internet believe the next big thing is the WebOS by Palm, since apps are done for the web and as a developer you don't need to develop specifically for the mobile, but its uptake on the market remains to be seen. ./Ok3ch On Mon, Sep 14, 2009 at 2:09 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

They choose Verizon coz it has wide coverage in the US, but after reading an article about it development and the CEO's role in it, the iphone better look out. Cheers v On Fri, Oct 30, 2009 at 5:33 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

Lets wait and see.. Motorola and Sony Ericsson,,, not doing so well - these two giants are currently below the 0 line of the y-axis profit line...

actually motorola made a little profit third quarter, but revenue went lower. -- with Regards: Get your free technology e-magazine in pdf format: Tekniaonline: http://bit.ly/tekniaonline-2 Maybe we should start a Reality show of collapsing buidlings: http://gramware.blogspot.com

boygeniusreports.com reports that the Motorola Droid is now headed to Germany O2 as the Motorola Milestone single band 3G GSM at a cost of slightly above 400 euros tax free, unlocked. I think (either correctly or wrongly) that we use the European GSM 3G standards over here. What is confirmed is that the same phone does not support US 3G standards. -- with Regards: Get your free technology e-magazine in pdf format: Tekniaonline: http://bit.ly/tekniaonline-2 Maybe we should start a Reality show of collapsing buidlings: http://gramware.blogspot.com

The beauty of the Droid from the you tube videos is Google Navigation www.google.com/navigation. This puts Google head to head with TeleAtlas and Navteq who provide them with some of the satellite imagery. But the Motorola Droid is a CDMA phone, the one to be released in like 4 days ,but they might do a GSM phone later on. 2009/11/2 Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com>
