@Matere, If possible, try spend more time learning about Google Wifi Internet. It may help you big time build on community wifi networks. What tools they use, what kind of expertise they can discuss with you on hardware, what kind of deployments they do, how they create backhauls, how they power those wi-fi radios is remote areas etc. For the notice boards that you had planned, this knowledge would be totally significant for you. Rgds. :-)

thanks aki that's what kind of information I was looking for. I will pass on the info and perharps connect you for any tech talk. Thanks again On Dec 6, 2011 6:07 PM, "aki" <aki275@gmail.com> wrote:

@Matere, you are welcome. I don't do wifi networks since a while now but it would be great for you to connect with the network group who have their own list and see how remote community networks can be developed on the public ISM bands. The network group is really a serious group. They also have users on this list too. Have fun there, enjoy the USA :-) Rgds. Please bring some telescopes. @Laban, count me in the Astronomy club! Martin.

I think its quite important for Matere to get the firms he veisit to promise to offer his community skills and expertise in the form of capacity exchange, let them commit to send in some team maybe once very year to come and visit your community, and see how they can hack up technology solutions, or advise you on such solutions, that they see can benefit the community in a big way. This will go a long way than donations, something I learned from Josphat Karanja of KENET (CIO of the Year)

Thanks all for the comments .I will be traveling to the U.S on 10 th January. Hope to meet some of you before then. Will be there for six days By the way anyone knows Kenyans in the west coast Would appreciate to touch base On Dec 9, 2011 2:05 PM, "Dennis Kioko" <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

Pretty old thread: Apparently there is a local amateur Astronomy club in Kenya with two really active members so far: 1) Mobile planetarium: < http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP_RwNjCzL8&feature=youtu.be > 2) Susan Murabana: < http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_F8mZenSYlE&feature=youtu.be > Meanwhile, I am still looking for a telescope or a binoculars pair for astronomy *at affordable prices*. I think Ngong' hills could also work, besides Mt. Longonot that is. I am not very sure though. The places that have some of the most spectacular views lie in the Western regions Kenya. Right after Kericho, through Kisumu as you head to Busia. There was a time in the year 2010 I travelled that way at night, I could see so many planets and constellations with my bare eyes it literally hurt.
