Hi guys, My PIX got otasted last week, so I set up a software firewall running CentOS 5. This morning I noticed that my downlink speeds were terrible low, although torrents were seeding at around 1Gbps avergage. Upon rebooting the Linux box, I had proper internet speeds again. What could be the problem and what should I do so I do not have to keep rebooting the Linux box everytime? Thanks Me.
Hey Simon, What firewall are you using? IPTABLES? if so did u try restart the service and what was the result? Hi Mbuthia, Check your Memory utilization - both RAM and Swap at the particular times you experience the drag in your network and nail down the service over-utilizing the Linux box' resources. You may also consider checking the processor utilization. This is quite common when a particular application in your system hogs most of the system's memory.The* "top*" command comes handy in this but there are plenty of other options to carry the checks depending on your desired output and also preference. @Mambo Yes, I am using iptables. I tried restarting the network service, but it was still slow. So I rebooted the server. I will check on Tuesday to see if the same repeats. @Chris That also sounds likely. Will check on Tuesday to see how it'll be... but why the downlink only???
