Re: [Skunkworks] MPESA on WIndows Phone 7

Steve, Your phone must be using Windows Phone 7, not WP 7.5. I have checked and re-checked your solution and it is not helping Allan Ouma P.O. Box 12731 Nairobi 00400 Kenya

@Joseph your comment is misleading. I use a Windows Phone 7 -- Nokia Lumia 900. I can assure you that I use MPESA on it I gave instructions on how to access it and I repeat
Go to:
Settings > (then make sure you are on the "System" tab and not "Applications" tab) Sim Applications > Show Applications > M-PESA or Safaricom+

Hi Allan, WP7.5 does not support STK. You might want to carry a dumbphone for MPESA. Don't know if it has/will be fixed in WP8.

Hi Allan Steve's phone is running WP 7.5. Before the Update while it was running WP7 Sim Toolkit was faulty and barely worked at least as far as the Lumia 800 is concerned. The tool kit on Lumia's works perfectly well after updating to WP7.5 both on the 800 and 900. So which handset are you using? It could ,though I don't know how, be located somewhere else. Or as Joseph put it "not available via your vender". On this note short codes except for checking airtime don't work on the Lumia, Its even more faulty while running WP7.5 then it was on WP 7. Hi Allan, still searching? Both your devices are Generation 1 devices, which originally came with WP7. the upgrade does not install the sim toolkit and a few other things so you will either need to get an original 2nd generation WP7.5 mango device eg the Nokia Lumia, later samsung omnia, htc titan/radar etc or wait for WP7.8 which will look like wp8. The upgrade which should be available later this month at least for the Lumia. Hopefully they will include the sim toolkit The same will happen to those of us with WP 7.5 our upgrade will take us up to WP 7.8 rather than the full WP8 so if I want all the features of WP8 I will have to buy a new WP8 device Hope this clears everything.

Actually the reason why they are restricting the upgrade is because of existing contracts with Service Providers.. Mainly in the USA (and Europe I guess). Service provider contracts run up to 2 years in the US. Now 2 years ago contracts were based on WP7. So allowing them to upgrade to WP7.5 with sim toolkit features and other selected extras would cause a lot of legal problems for Microsoft because these affect the service providers directly. So even those with contracts for WP7.5 will see them end in 2014 so all that Microsoft can do is allow these existing phones to upgrade the user experience to be that of WP8 and not all the functionality especially that which affects service providers eg, you guessed it, sim toolkits. So from 2014 when all existing contracts will be pegged on WP8 and above, thats when Microsoft will deal with the fragmentation issue and the ecosystem will now be unified. Some of the reasons why Microsoft is phasing into WP8/Windows 8 instead of full blown launches. Steve
Not that this is of any help but the windows phone ecosystem seems way more restrictive than even the much maligned Apple one.
