Does anyone on the list know how to make a customized distribution on CentOS? For example, create a distro that has all the servers that you'll need (Tomcat, Postgres), exclude all the things that you won't need e.t.c.? -- Thanks and Regards, Erick Njenga Nyachwaya, M: +254-725-008-790 <http://www.facebook.com/ErickNjenga> <http://www.twitter.com/ErickNjenga>

I thought you can choose to custom install packages when installing the OS

That's possible but I wanted to install all packages needed for my purposes and preconfigure (e.g. database access port e.t.c.) them then make an installable image from that customized setup. On Wed, Oct 20, 2010 at 5:21 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

Have a look at KickStart http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Installation_Guide-en-US/ch-kickstart2.htm... On 10/20/2010 05:31 PM, Erick Njenga wrote:

Hi Erick, This is very possible, I have done this before and successfully created a customized Live DC distro using both an Ubuntu and also using Fedora. Since you are using CentOS I would recommend you check out the fedora custom spins website http://spins.fedoraproject.org which was of much help to me when I was doing this. For Ubuntu I used Remastersys, there are tonnes of resources on this, here is a couple of URL's that might help. http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/remastersys http://www.howtoforge.com/ubuntu-linux-mint-livecd-with-remastersys http://ubuntuforums.org/tags.php?tag=remastersys -- ˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ 'spɹɐƃǝɹ ıʞnɾu pıʌɐp

This should work http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/
