Hey Everyone! I am a recently graduated Masters student from Stanford University (USA). Our group of Oxford University and Stanford University Masters and PhD students have come together to create a nonprofit startup that plans to use telemedicine to allow individuals in rural Kenya to manage their own healthcare. We are finalists for a $10,000 prize from Advanta Corp. Winning this competition will give us the money we need to do the initial fieldwork and set up the pilot project. Please help us get this money by voting for our idea on the competition website: http://www.ideablob.com/ideas/5535-Telemedicine-for-Rural-Kenya (The link also has more information about our project) You need to register on the website to vote, but its really quick and you only need to enter your e-mail address (don’t worry they don’t spam you). We have already made it to the finals and now we really need every vote we can get to win the money. Voting ends on the 30th of this month so please click on the link now! Thanks so much! @Kriti, This sounds like a noble idea but I feel you can source this amount of money even from the govt if you present a proper biz plan, than having us register to vote. I read in jana's paper that Hon. Uhuru said "Beautiful women are the face of a healthy society", totally floored me. @Bajaj, if u can, find a way to let Ps. Ndemo know about your project. I hear he is very supportive of such initiatives. On Wed, Jun 24, 2009 at 9:34 AM, Murigi Muraya <mmskunkworks@gmail.com>wrote:

Jokes aside this issue is really relevant, my buddy was admitted on Monday evening at one of the leading hospitals in Nairobi and discharged today, the bill was a whooping 84000 Kenya shillings, i have been trying to go through the bill and to say the least it is a fraud they kept delaying the results so that the bill (bed and breakfast could rise), *how does the common man* *survive? *An expatriate friend told me recently that health care is too expensive in Kenya and i thought he was joking but i came face to face with the scenario, there is also an increasing case of mis diagnosis in leading hospitals in our country, i beleive this project will be a timely initiative On Wed, Jun 24, 2009 at 7:05 PM, Murigi Muraya <mmskunkworks@gmail.com>wrote:
