Re: [Skunkworks] <OT>Vehicle accident statistics

I doubt the police tabulate make/model of vehicles, but let me see if I
can
ask a few I know what is normally contained in the report.
Hmm, would be surprised if they don't. That would be important for insurance. You may even get the colour. In some countries, red is the most expensive colour as it trigger higher insurance premium. Please update us what you find. My bet, Suzuki is up there. That car is petty prone to over turning if you are not careful. Muriithi

Thanks @Silas, the section on traffic accidents summarized the number of accidents and provided no details about the make and model, but thanks! It was an interesting read, though saddening that all those people died.
@Moses, thanks for the contact, let me procrastinate emailing him until the need surpasses the fear :-)

Coz of the skewed purchasing behavior of most Kenyans with almost 90% driving a Toyota. I wonder how you will structure your data so that you get a comparative case. What am sure is that the car with the least accident in Kenya is a Ferrari. On 14 Jan, 2013 4:55 PM, "William Muriithi" <william.muriithi@gmail.com> wrote:

Over and above the fact that the data is already biased to Toyota, there are quite a number or variables in an accident, the state of the car,the state of the driver, the condition of the road, familiarity with the road, the other road users, night or day. Again what gravity of accidents are you looking at? If its cars scratching other cars then ofcourse Kayole matatu will be up there regardless of the make. I think to compare cars in this way lots of factors need to be constant which in an ideal word aren't thereby limiting the use for such an analysis. I know an insurance company in Kenya that can't touch a Probox, even if its 5 minutes old. Am kinda thinking that what you are aiming at is to do profiling. As much as you are gonna use probability, its more of profiling. Its easy to conclude that certain cars are driven by drivers who behave in similar manner. Example miraa vans (mainly Hilax), probox/succeed are all known on how they r driven by most of their drivers. When you look at matatus, again you can narrow to haice, caravans, mini-buses, buses. Probability would work where, accidents are caused by technical failures by the car and that car is well maintained and serviced. My half a cent!
