Wi-Free - No connection

Hi all,I have tried connecting with Wi-free using 3 different SIMs but so far unsuccessful. Any tips on what I might be doing wrong?

SIMs, if that means SIM Cards, are not used for WiFi. They are used for GSM/3G/EvDO. Your question is quite sketchy to be meaningful. For instance, SIM cards are not used on Iron boxes or TVs... On 15 April 2013 19:58, Edge Kenya <edgenetworkskenya@gmail.com> wrote:

Another ignorant and perhaps lazy question please. Has anyone tried Wif-Free on a FreeBSD box or any of its variants? My P.C BSD installation works finely with my wireless card and I would like to try Wi-Free on it with a GPRS / 3G modem. If someone has done this before you can kindly explain the quirks if you experienced any along the way. Thank you. Martin. On 4/15/13, Joseph Tintale <jayxtintale@gmail.com> wrote:

@Chiteri, I have used Huawei modems on FreeBSD/PC-BSD without any problems. E160, E1750, E1820, E173. If this Wi-Free uses PPP, then you should surely connect. However, I am not ready to comment on how things will be at protocol level. I just realized that I saw this thread's subject as WiFi and not Wi-Free. Sorry and apologies to the OP (Edge Kenya). This is my moment of 100% ignorance. I have no idea what Wi-Free is, to be honest. And I wasn't misquoted, Mickey. It's a case of mistaken reference:) On 15 April 2013 22:40, Martin Chiteri <martin.chiteri@gmail.com> wrote:

You can share your successes/frustrations as you progress. For starters you can get a working ppp.conf from me (also available online). For the modem to work, you'll need to disable the virtual cdrom using the AT command: AT^U2DIAG=0, assuming you go the Huawei route. If this Wi-Free is what is being described here -> http://www.wi-free.com/download.html, then I don't see a variant for Unix that you can deploy on *BSD. I still don't understand what's so good with this Wi-Free anyway...maybe one day I will get the gist! On 15 April 2013 22:55, Martin Chiteri <martin.chiteri@gmail.com> wrote:

If you have done it before getting the modem up should not be too difficult for me. The goodness with Wi-Free I understand is that it enables you to use modems "toll free". You get a connection to the Internet from a cellular phone network provider (Orange) without purchasing air-time or data bundles from them per se. Rather you use an application (Wi-Free) that allows you to surf using open ports on the provider's gateway servers and give the wi-free people some cash, Kshs. 600.00 or so. Martin. Very few providers still have free open ports. You could try a proxy that rewrites free urls like mobile.facebook.com but I can assure you that will still be dpi'd. Jgitau Sent from my iPad On 16 Apr 2013, at 00:02, Martin Chiteri <martin.chiteri@gmail.com> wrote:

*Hi all,I have tried connecting with Wi-free using 3 different SIMs but so far unsuccessful. Any tips on what I might be doing wrong?*
What SIM cards have you tried? Get an Orange GSM SIM card or Telkom CDMA RUIM card. In my past life, I used to run wi-free on the EvDO modem
