Some very serious companies - Airtel

I am surprised by Airtel. They took over Zain and when they started rebrading, even dropped the MX records for ke.zain.com! I'd have thought they'd keep the records and do either an A or CNAME (at worst) mapping for some time. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Damn!!

Then it must be pretty complicated to reconfigure APNs than DNS:-) They changed the IVRs, DNS, Logos... -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Damn!!

Maybe for legal reasons, but seriously, I see no hurry in changing CNAME records, unless that was stipulated in the buyout. Maybe they want to drop Zain off kabisa...

The Subscriber can have an incorrect/old APN and still work with new settings, cause of the packet core equipment can override existing APN as configured on the phone/modem with the a default one as configured by the telcos. They can do this to avoid inconveniencing subscribers when they make changes to the APN and also to reduce connection problems due to misconfigured APNs settings on the MS. *NB:* * * This is an optional feature that can be implemented by the operators regards Patrick

<slight hijack pole wash> what has impressed me is that I am in Malawi and can surf on my Airtel line like normal. I did not have to change the APN to local one or anything like. I just tried and it worked. Encouraged I also tried on my Safaricom line. The Safaricom SIM card popped out of the phone and slapped me hard for being silly and popped back in laughing loudly. Yu have implemented a "blank APN" since I can remember. This means you can surf on their network with any settings. It helps since it reduces number of customers calling for settings and also good for customer satisfaction. Now, if Yu had a serious data network, though there is something in the works ....

Just note that the data pricing on the One network are not the same (its like roaming data). So expect something like 1,000 Kshs per MB. Regards, Michuki.

Roaming. Watch your bill. BR S -- This message represents the official view of the voices in my head.

OK I was in Malawi for four days. I loaded up KSH 1000 before I left. I now still have over KSH 400 on the phone including calls etc and including heavy phone usage once I got back yesterday. Maybe if I was sat somewhere BitTorrenting it would have killed my bill - but really I see no real difference (although I'll be the first to admit I do not monitor my bandwidth costs religiously!) @ Daudi, it can take upto 3 months to get your roaming charges harmonized. I got mine 2 months later and it was as ridiculous as ksh 1000 per mb. But u seem to be on pre-paid, I wonder how that works. On 12/10/10, Daudi Were <daudi.were@gmail.com> wrote:
