Just got back today and am checking skunks emails hoping to read interesting threads. Looking at the threads summary for Feb, it gives an indicator of what discussions are taking place : - Zuku - Andriod - Buying and selling of items, job adverts and RFI 's etc - Ms and Google - Browsers - And others... Kwani what happened, is it just me jet-lagged or am I starting to find myself out of place in the KE Tech community scene? Rgds. :-)

Now im curious, What were you hoping to read about? On Tue, Feb 22, 2011 at 5:16 PM, aki <aki275@gmail.com> wrote:

@Joram, not sure but things seem a bit out of place here. I think we need to start rating threads so as to determine our own traffic and hopefully have more discussions or more interesting tech/stuff to read on the list. Me thots. I feel I have to opine here. If you feel the discussions are not meeting your expectations why not start the topics yourself to give others an idea of what you expect? As long as posts fall into the realm of acceptable discussion as per the rules, let people say what they want.

@Phares, I don't know what traffic should be generated but its becoming difficult to stay online and read skunksworks . Maybe some of us just need to break away from the list and create more focussed online groups on technology and the future. I don't know, but currently reading threads seem so empty of what kenya is on a tech front is about or where we are heading etc. Anyway, my views should not discourage the regular contributors, these are just my views or thots. @Haggai, the risk of we must face is that eventually the list will become a casual one. I hope it does not and hope we can rectify the issues as and when it is necessary. For the month of Feb, what is the most discussed thread? Rgds. :-)

I hope the content of this list is not being compared with other countries! Kenyans are unique in needs and habits peculiar or not! @Tony, why would we be comparing to other countries, after all we are supposed to be an advanced democracy, right? The best we could do is the repeal of section 2A by depending on politicians who are the same ones still around today and the same cycles of pretence of change is still on going. It's like change never happened. However, knowing that we are not a political forum, my point was that of technology and the future. Whether we like it or not, the future and the change of kenya, depends on the current young generations if we are to see implementations of better and smarter country. If not in 2012, then surely in 2016. Some of them are on this list, I hope and hold future aspirations of that change. As an example, the nearest sector in govt that affects us all is the KICTB, Min of Information. I hope that the next govt 2012, and in particular the above sectors, will have a better representation from kenyans who know what needs to be done. I also think it is time that those in technology should be thinking of forming pressure and representation groups to actively ensure that the overall national policies and visions are seen to happen. While the current KICTB seems to think that the successes of e.g. Tinga Tinga productions is the key to the future, it falls quite short on many other expectations. Another example is that of the telcos price regulations, because it seeks to protect the middle class kenyans of share investments, share investors etc at the expense of the majority population who earn much less and until the recent price drops could not afford cellphone services. So while we continue our tech discussions on this list, we should also keep in mind that we are expecting a better change and goals within the sector that affect the future. Me thots. :-) On Tue, Feb 22, 2011 at 9:16 PM, <tonygacheru@gmail.com> wrote:
