Is number portability really the way to battle the queen bee

What if all the other mobile phone companies were to attractively package twin sim or multiple sim card phones with one slot "locked" to their network? what if additionally the locked slot were to somehow be configured as the default permanently so that while you can receive and make calls on the other SIM cards, the process would be significantly cumbersome. Me thinks that while the green sim card would automatically take one of the slots, the operator with the default sim would eventually benefit. -- Regards, Collins Areba. Strategic Operations. and what is the procedure of implementing this? Quite complex i think.

Hi all, Yesterday something happened that i dint know existed. A friend has saf and yu lines that are alike except prefix of course, so someone waz to send money to her via mpesa unfortunatly the sender used the YU line shokingly it sent the amount, but was prompted to withdraw the amount by 7 days so with this Number Portability wont be a such a hustle. -- *"One who ask questions is a fool for five minutes one who doesn't is a fool forever."*

Am surprised you didn't know you could do that. The same applies for zap and yu cash. What i want to see is where someone sends cash from mpesa to my zap line and the amount reflects on my zap directly. On 30/09/2010, nerdalf <nerdalf@gmail.com> wrote:

Lets talk a bit of theory: Mpesa is owned by Vodaphone UK and managed locally by Safaricom. For this argument, lets treat Safaricom and Mpesa as separate entities. Suppose Vodacom TZ uses exactly the same Mpesa service that will allow sending money from Mpesa KE (Safaricom) into Mpesa TZ (Vodacom), that will make interesting cross border trade between Voda... related subscribers. Lets take it further (theoretically). Suppose Orange KE managed to convince Vodaphone UK to use the same Mpesa. So Orange KE and Safaricom users could easily send money into each others mpesa accounts. If this would become hugely successful to the point where Zain ditch Zap, Yu ditch Yu Cash and they all use Mpesa. Then in that case, it wouldn't matter which network you are on coz you could still use Mpesa. If that is very far fetched, then we could settle for a 'pesapoint' of mobile money. 2010/9/30 Job Muriuki <muriukin@gmail.com>

This happens somewhere in West Africa (still looking for the URL) where this company partnered directly with a bank and had the systems to do mobile money; they then sign contracts with all networks and do cross network transfer, since the company is independent of any network...
