issues with .co.ke domains not resolving on Google 8.8.8.8 DNS

Hello, I'm noting that a number of popular .co.ke domains currently don't resolve on 8.8.8.8 (google's public DNS servers). They continue to resolve normally on other common DNS servers like 4.2.2.2. In particular, I noticed safaricom.co.ke is impacted, as well as standardmedia.co.ke. Anyone else noting this or know the cause?

Greetings, I know very little about DNS and as a point of note kenic is also not resolving. Currently, they all seem to exhibit a similar TLD Parent check error according to https://intodns.com Regards, On Fri, Dec 16, 2016 at 8:04 AM, Andris Bjornson via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Seems to be worsening - DNS servers in Kenya that were previously resolving .co.ke domains are now not. I think this may have happened once before in 2015 and at that time had something to do with DNSSEC https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/public-dns-discuss/.co.ke%7Csort:... --- Andris Bjornson | EveryLayer <http://www.everylayer.com/> skype: andris.bjornson On Thu, Dec 15, 2016 at 10:05 PM, Brian L <lusiola@gmail.com> wrote:

Seems like only one of Kenic name servers is answering queries, the rest seems to have an issue, likely the reason .ke domains are having issues. dig zuku.co.ke ns @b.ns.kenic.or.ke. ; <<>> DiG 9.8.2rc1-RedHat-9.8.2-0.47.rc1.el6_8.3 <<>> zuku.co.ke ns @b.ns.kenic.or.ke. ;; global options: +cmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 43884 ;; flags: qr rd; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 2, ADDITIONAL: 0 ;; WARNING: recursion requested but not available ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;zuku.co.ke. Hello: Any recommendation for DNS servers located in Kenya to use as an alternative to the Googles of the world? The use-case I am thinking of is in resolving local web content, hopefully faster by reducing the number of hops. Thanks, Allan. I don't believe it matters whether you use Google's 8.8.8.8, or use your ISP's servers. It would only make (some small) sense if local sites with local content were hosted locally and used local dns Right now, many 'local' sites are hosted in USA or elswhere. The time taken to return a dns query is not significant. Cheers, Tony On 22/12/2016, Joro Maundu via skunkworks <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Allan, Any DNS server should be able to resolve any hostname is published publicly. You can always use your local provider's DNS, that's the easiest (least latency) option you have. Aside from that, you can use Liquid Telecom's anycast DNS 5.11.11.5 and 5.11.11.11, they are hosted somewhere in Africa (not sure if Kenya). Omani. Any recommendation for DNS servers located in Kenya to use as an alternative to the Googles of the world? The use-case I am thinking of is in resolving local web content, hopefully faster by reducing the number of hops.
Thanks, Allan.

I think this may have happened once before in 2015 and at that time had something to do with DNSSEC

Greetings,
I know very little about DNS and as a point of note kenic is also not resolving. Currently, they all seem to exhibit a similar TLD Parent check error according to https://intodns.com

Thanks everyone for the responses. Gave me context to re-evaluate my options. On Thu, Dec 22, 2016 at 12:23 PM, Duncan Omani <omanidm@gmail.com> wrote:
