All this talk of Search Engines brings back memories when the internet was still young..

During those years I've used Web Crawler,Magellan, AltaVista, Netscape, Infoseek, Lycos and Excite. The Spider was the funniest. Where were you in those years in technology? Those days you heard of some guy called Linus.. and at some places KPTC dialup was between 800 - 2400 bps. You would hear the Telex machines print at 300baud? And the telephone ringer on the green KPTC handsets with a rotary dial would scare you if it rang in the middle of the night. KPTC was prompt at fixing problems too. :-)

And come 95, there were threee kenyan legends Ayisi Makatiani, Karanja Gakio and Amolo Ng'weno, an MIT/Harvard story. I wonder what happened to them after afol. Without these guys and their passion for technology and diversity, kenyan internet would have been a different place. These guys belong in the KE Technology Legends Hall of Fame if we have one.

Before the .com bubble burst - leaving a few companies like Google, Yahoo, AOL etc Good to know that Google is becoming a pirate of the Internet - now that it's competing on almost all areas - now they have a browser, they have a social site, they have open office, etc etc etc I hope 10yrs from now, there will be something left for the others,, and for start-ups :) W/r Snn Sent from my iPhone On Jul 24, 2010, at 10:27 PM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:
