Hi Skunkers and Skunkresses, Is there any wireless router/switch/access point that can automatically generate Random passkeys for Wi-Fi access with the option of expiring after a specified time frame e.g a password for 1hour, a password for a day, a password for 1 week e.t.c. Thanks. Regards, Rocky Skype id: rockymbithi

Use mikrotiks they have captive portals or otherwise known as hotspots On Thu, May 21, 2009 at 2:08 PM, rocky mbithi <rockymbithi@gmail.com> wrote:

Take a look at http://www.wikidsystems.com/community-version. Integrated with RADIUS (if your device supports RADIUS), makes for a great solution. BR, S

Is there any wireless router/switch that comes with the functionality of random pass codes?? Regards, Rocky On Thu, May 21, 2009 at 2:42 PM, Steve Muchai <smuchai@gmail.com> wrote:

AFAIK, there's none that I know of. The router/switch will only support authentication against some external system, via a protocol such as RADIUS, LDAP, TACACS+, etc, or looking up users in an internal database. The random / one-time-password functionality would be a feature of the external authentication system, not the router/switch. The router will only implement a method of requesting for credentials and looking them up against the authentication system. So for example, a Mikrotik router will have a captive portal (redirects you to a login page). Your username/passwd can be stored on the router itself (static password, not one-time). If you do have a RADIUS/TACACS+ backend that has a OTP plugin, then you can implement OTP and configure the Mikrotik to authenticate against that. Hope that's clearer. The ZyXel G4100 is able to generate random usernames and passwords that last 1, 2 or 5 days. It even has MAC address filtering for more permanent connections. I'm not sure if it's available in Kenya, though. http://www.zyxel.com/web/product_family_detail.php?PC1indexflag=200405201613... Asante. The ZyXel G4100 works very fine, except it is a small network device, with only capacity for a very small LAN (I found that more than 10 PCs were causing problems for our dear device). -- J. N. Kimani 2009/5/22 Erick NNN <erickarn@gmail.com>

That's true. Ours is micro-managed, so that only those who need wireless access get it. Last count had 37 users, but they may not be using it all at the same time. Asante Erick On Fri, May 22, 2009 at 9:02 AM, J. N. Kimani <ngugikimani@gmail.com> wrote:
