An Apple a day.....

Just what the doctor ordered..lol! :-))) Apple's Arrogance and the iPhone 4 Antenna Debacle : Jeff Bertolucci, PC World Jul 13, 2010 1:03 am Complete PCWorld Coverage Apple 32GB iPhone 4 Life must suck today at One Infinite Loop. Just when Apple had hoped the hullabaloo over the iPhone 4's apparently faulty antenna was fading to a soft rumble, Consumer Reports comes along and drops a tactical nuclear strike, declaring the new iPhone unfit for public use. And based on the extensiveness of the venerable publication's in-house testing, it's hard to dismiss CR's take as an ill-informed, kneejerk reaction to a few dropped calls. Indeed, the Antenna Crisis is getting uglier by the minute, and it's time for some serious crisis control from the folks in Cupertino. Another pseudo explanation, like the one on July 2 that fessed up to an iPhone signal-strength software glitch unrelated to the antenna design, won't cut it this time. The company is in danger of losing its hard-earned reputation for excellent quality and service. If "bad antenna" is the first thing that pops into a consumer's head when an iPhone 4 ad appears, well, that can't be good for business. .................http://www.pcworld.com/article/200954/apples_arrogance_and_the_iphone_4_ante...

While a recall could be damaging to Apple's reputation, it would also be a costly endeavor, according to some calculations made by Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi. In a research note on Tuesday, Sacconaghi estimated that while "a full product recall of the iPhone 4 (is) highly unlikely," it would cost Apple $1.5 billion, or 3.5 percent of its total cash on hand. http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20010443-260.html

And the saga continues : SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Apple Inc has called a surprise press conference for Friday to talk about the iPhone 4, as the company continues to deal with fallout from reported reception problems on its popular smartphone. Apple spokesman Steve Dowling said late on Wednesday the company would hold the event at 10 a.m. on Friday at its headquarters in Cupertino, California. He declined to provide further details, or to say whether the event will address the signal-strength problems that some people have reported having with the iPhone 4 when the device is held in a certain way. Apple has faced mounting criticism from analysts and consumers over its handling of complaints about the reception issues on the newest iPhone, which was launched last month. Analysts say Apple has created a public relations headache for itself by appearing to dismiss or ignore the problem, allowing a minor issue to be turned into headline news. Although most analysts believe a recall of the device is unlikely, a growing chorus have urged Apple to resolve the matter, perhaps by offering free iPhone cases, which appear to solve the problem. The iPhone 4 has been an unqualified hit with consumers, and sales have so far been unaffected by the controversy, analysts say. Apple sold 1.7 million units in its first three days to become the fastest selling device in the company's history. But scattered reports cropped up early on from users who complained about decreased signal strength when they touched certain parts of the phone. The company has been sued by several consumers over the matter. Still, the problem does not appear to be widespread. Earlier this month, Apple issued a statement, saying the problem was caused by a software glitch that overstates network signal strength. But some found that explanation wanting. Many who follow the company believe the problem is with the hardware itself. A steel band runs along the outside of the iPhone 4 and acts as the antenna. The influential publication Consumer Reports said on Monday it could not recommend the iPhone 4 to buyers because of problems with its signal-strength. It has called on Apple to provide a free fix to iPhone 4 buyers. On Wed, Jul 14, 2010 at 2:59 PM, [watchman] <skunkingrahim@gmail.com> wrote:

Apple's fix for iPhone 4 antenna glitch: Free cases for users By Gregg Keizer July 16, 2010 04:44 PM ET Computerworld - Facing heat from customers, the media and Wall Street analysts over iPhone 4 antenna and reception problems, Apple CEO Steve Jobs today said every iPhone owner would be given a free case. The announcement came at a hurriedly-called news conference at Apple's Cupertino, Calif. campus. The event was announced late Wednesday, and came amid a three-week span of negative publicity surrounding the iPhone 4 that reached a crescendo Monday when Consumer Reports said it could not recommend the smartphone because it dropped calls and lost signals when users held it in certain ways. "We love our users, we really love them," Jobs said during the news conference. "We try very hard to surprise and delight them. We work our asses off. When we fall short, which we do sometimes, we try harder. We pick ourselves up, figure out what's wrong and we try harder." Customers who have already purchased a $29 Bumper case from Apple will receive a refund, Jobs said, and all iPhone owners will be given a choice of several different manufacturers' cases, including Apple's. "We can't make enough bumpers," Jobs said. "No way can we make enough in the quarter. So what we're going to do is source some cases and give you a choice." When Microsoft lost all the SideKick data, Aki said nothing. When Google was caught sniffing wireless networks all over the world, Aki said nothing. When Toyota had the accelerator problem, Aki said nothing. When Air France crashed in the Atlantic ocean and was never found, Aki said nothing. When Arsenal did not win the Premier League last season and they said they will win next season, Aki said nothing.
Now we have this small problem with the iPhone 4 and Aki has gone all ballistic.

Nope... :-) Am surprised that no one on this list posted the iPhone4 reception problem. There's a new joke out now = How not to hold an iPhone! Lol! ;-) On Wed, Jul 14, 2010 at 11:25 AM, Phares Kariuki <pkariuki@gmail.com> wrote:

Apple's Arrogance and the iPhone 4 Antenna Debacle :
Jeff Bertolucci, PC World Jul 13, 2010 1:03 am Complete PCWorld Coverage
Apple 32GB iPhone 4
Life must suck today at One Infinite Loop.
