iSkunks, Back in the day, when I was still young, I contacted some chinese guys on alibaba.com and enquired about building a PC branded with my Name...Mutugi PC, MutugiSoft, Mutugi Computers, etc. etc. They told me that that was possible, I believe they called it OEM, i.e. you can basically put any brand name on the barebone PC and sell it as if you have invented it. Anyway, I decided to put that project on hold after the refurbished PCs started flooding the market. Almost 2 years ago, I had a similar idea, I wanted to create an iMutugi tablet PC and so I went to alibaba.com once again and I identified several tablet manufacturers doing the OEM thing and we embarked on negotiations, however, I lost interest along the way and I was also bogged down by other nation building duties. Now, recently I heard about the Kaboo Tablet and one thing that I noticed was that it is being marketed as: "developed by our very own Computer Engineers in partnership with American and Chinese Engineers"... or ..."they have developed a Tablet that rivals the iPad yet at a most affordable price." My dear iSkunks, is this thing really a rival to the iPad? Is there anyone on the list who has used it? Is it just another alibaba.com OEM gadget being marketed as "Locally developed"? iRegards, iTimo.

Yes, I got to use it and its quite adictive. Its really hard to even say that the Samsung Tablet competes to the Ipad, apple are in a special class. The Taboo tablet was made for the local wananchi. If you want something to compete with the Ipad, the costs will be too great. Its like comparing an Ideos to and Iphone 2. Comparisons need to be made using relevant features....dont compare a prado with a Range rover On Thu, Nov 10, 2011 at 12:09 PM, Bernard Mwagiru <bmwagiru@gmail.com>wrote:

LOL Where is it being marketed as: "developed by our very own Computer Engineers in partnership with
American and Chinese Engineers"... or ..."they have developed a Tablet that rivals the iPad yet at a most affordable price."
As one of the guys behind it, the above statement are *very inaccurate*. What we did was get a manufacturer on Alibaba and asked them to modify some things. It also comes with a customized Android 2.2 to make the performance on the limited hardware better. The tablet in its current state doesn't come close to the ipad. We specifically focused on "low tech" hardware to keep prices low. However, we do have some upcoming 'modles' which can actually outperform the ipad (from a hardware point of view) at less than half the cost. :) Anyone can do this, really. The idea is to start here and, hopefully, grow. Can you point me out to where you got that 'marketing' info, please? I am sorry for the misconceptions that you got from there. Mr. Mutugi ...Underestimating local expertise are we? The concepts behind such a device are in the public domain and they are taught to thousands of local collage & university students every year. Do not rule out the possibility that majority of it could'av been designed by a Kenyan. _______________________________________________ *Good judgement comes from Experience.* *Most of that comes from Bad Judgement.* _______________________________________________ * * 2011/11/10 Kelvin <kjayanoris@gmail.com>
