On the quality of the modern day periodical...

Begin Rant: I am concerned that the average me, can spot at least one error on the front page of the Daily Nation. Every Day! Are standards really that bad at NMG?
Take this article from the 'premium edition' Business Daily. http://www.businessdailyafrica.com/Corporate-News/SA-wine-producer-returns-t... I spotted at least 10 glaring errors on my first skim: basic math issues, punctuation, grammar.. How many can you spot? I propose a cringe and skim approach to reading the article.
I am not adding an end rant marker.

I gave up a long time ago. Label me ignorant / detached / #AnyOtherDerogatoryTermHere but I only read the Sunday paper (if I get one) and check two columns *ONLY*. Those written by Philip Ochieng' and the other by Dr. Chris Hart. Conversely, follow the right people / group of people on Twitter and you will have all the news in the world, very fast and very clean. Some media houses, especially the English (Brit) ones are also doing an _excellent job_ Martin. On Mon, Jun 10, 2013 at 11:09 PM, Laban Mwangi <lmwangi@gmail.com> wrote:

Aha! I also go for Ochieng's articles. He has entertaining rants about the junk that his employer is pushing out as news. I've given up on getting coherent news from the mainstream media. I am now relying on the BBC; I don't like it, but it's the best I have at the moment. Just wondering, would a crowd sourced Internet/mobile paper work? D'accord, Martin. [?] Philip Ochieng additionally runs an interesting column that highlights common cases of glaring malapropism. Add Sunny Bindra, Mungai Kihanya & Gavin Benett to your list.

@Tony, Gavin Benett is something. Who remembers Dr. Dawood, ``Whispers'' (R.I.P) those days? At some point, I was thinking of building an app that would replay some of those articles published then for the general audience of today to compare and contrast. Where to get digital copies of those writings is another issue altogether ........ Martin. On Mon, Jun 10, 2013 at 11:33 PM, Tony Likhanga <tlikhanga@gmail.com> wrote:

a) I go to the nation online to read the comments which I find very entertaining. b) The reality is that sensational news sell, which is why the world over, tabloids far outsell the mainstream papers. c) On spelling errors and grammar, there is really no defence for that. d) I do not know what malapropism is On Mon, Jun 10, 2013 at 11:56 PM, Martin Chiteri <martin.chiteri@gmail.com>wrote:
